Will baby girl named Harris be assumed to be named after Kamala Harris rather than mom’s maiden name?

This is so bad. Makes it even worse.

Agree it's a horrible first name OP. Make it a middle name at best.

Sisters Larla, Weatherly and Harris

I don't think anyone will think of Kamala Harris.

Reagan is a really popular girls name right now (I know at least 7) and none of their parents are Ronald Reagan supporters. In fact none of them are even Republicans.

That is better.

+1. Growing up in the South, I knew many girls who had Mary + family surname double name combos. I knew a Mary Daniel, a Mary Allen, plus several girls with even more unusual Mary + masculine-sounding surname double names. They weren’t teased at all, and Mary Harris would have fit right in! YMMV depending on where you live though.

That's what they tell you.

But if you do this, OP, please give her a feminine middle name. She may not love being called Harris as a girl.

Agree.

Nobody would expect a kid to be named after a failed presidential candidate or affiliated persons.

Know any Hunters? Any named after Biden?

No, they will just assume she is a boy, which could really help her college admission and later job searches.

Yes people will make that assumption. They might assume she's a boy. If you both like it go for it. I would suggest a middle name she could go by.like Jane.

We gave our twins our mothers' maiden names as middle names because we wanted obviously female first names.

It will be fine people are a lot less rigid about names than dcum will have you believe.
Congratulations.

Not my cup of tea, but I think the same is fine. Reminds me of Harris Faulkner.

Congrats and GL OP.

I doubt anyone would think that and name is fine for a grown up woman but not a cute name for a baby.

There so many good names in this world, why limit yourself to names in the family. There are other ways to honor people than forcing their name on your child.

Nobody things of Harris as Kamala, women are usually remembered for their 1st name.

We say Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Trump, Hilary and Kamala.

So no people don't hear Harris and think Kamala

No one with an ounce of sense is going to think you named for your children for the losing Presidential candidate.
