Growing up in the South, I knew many girls who had Mary + family surname double name combos. I knew a Mary Daniel, a Mary Allen, plus several girls with even more unusual Mary + masculine-sounding surname double names. They weren’t teased at all, and Mary Harris would have fit right in!
