Will baby girl named Harris be assumed to be named after Kamala Harris rather than mom’s maiden name?

We say Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Trump, Hilary and Kamala.

So no people don't hear Harris and think Kamala

Calling people from their last name is so weird.

Gosh. That’s worse than Karen. Seriously.

OP, naming your little girl Harris without another name in front of it would make you a bad parent. It’s rare I’d say that about a name, but setting your child up for relentless teasing is bad parenting. Everyone you know will judge you behind your back, as well they should.

If you use it as a middle name. I don’t love it, but whatever. If you live in the south, Anne Harris isn’t great, but no one will judge.

Yet that is what we do

Yes, just because one other woman has this unfortunate name doesn’t mean you have to saddle your lovely baby girl with it too. Use it as a middle name.

She's also gorgeous and could pull off any name.

Harris is such an ugly name, OP. It's truly hideous. Your family is not that important: if you aren't providing your kid with a multi-million dollar trust, don't force her to bear this stupid moniker to satisfy your ego trip.

I hope you see from this thread how it will be perceived. Don't do this to your daughter.

Did you see that stupid Roseanne spinoff in which Darlene has a daughter named Harris? I assumed it was chosen because it was unattractive and awkward in a way that screamed "clueless but aspirational, like an art school dropout from a blue-collar family in a rundown town, choosing what she thinks is a 'classy' name." It was what a washed-up, unsuccessful Darlene WOULD have named her daughter. The writers did a great job on little details like this.

Can't you get a golden and name it Harris? Still a really ugly name, but it might work for a dog.

Names that are better than Harris include:

Ethel
Bertha
Prudence
Irma
Mildred
Eunice
Morticia
Diznee
Gunner
Cutter
Nevaeh
Krisstle
Grizzle
Whore'tensia

Any of the above would be better. Because Harris is a terrible name.

Dumb name

This is pretentious in a low class and desperate way. You aren’t old money - stop trying to emulate this trend. Or particularly southern. It looks really sad when everyone sees you are a striver from the DC area.

Got cut off. Harris is a weird first name choice, especially for a girl. I honestly wouldn’t associate it with Kamala. It’s independent of any association, a bad first name, especially for a girl. There’s some Harrisons as middle names for males my circle and that’s as tolerable as it gets imo.
