Will baby girl named Harris be assumed to be named after Kamala Harris rather than mom’s maiden name?

In coming years, will she be faced with the whether she was named after Kamala or do people assume it’s mom’s maiden name/family name?

Anonymous
No. It will just be assumed she is a boy.

That's an awful first for a girl.

No. Kamala Harris will be the answer to a trivia game in 5 years.

But if you do this, OP, please give her a feminine middle name. She may not love being called Harris as a girl.

Who cares? Kind of an odd name for a girl, though.

It's not a great first name for a girl. And yes, a lot of people will assume Kamala.

Please just don’t. She will have to be exceptionally beautiful to pull off the name Harris. It is incredibly masculine and brings to mind the word “hair/ hairy” to boot.

Ooof. That is a middle name at best, please don't name a little girl "Harris".

But yes, if I met a female baby Harris I'd assume you named her after Kamala.

I dont get why parents do this to their kids.

I can’t think of many common maiden names that are worse suited for a girls first name. Collins, Evans, Smith I think you could get away with. Harris?? No. It’s supremely ugly and the only nickname is “Harry”.

Because they are thinking about themselves, and their family legacy, rather than their kids.

OMG at least use Harriet instead of Harris.

Yea there is a thing where girls are given surnames as first names. It can work. But this one doesn’t work.

It’s like if there was a thing where girls were named after cars, and you knew a Mercedes and a Sonata. So you decided to name your baby girl Buick or Volvo. It’s not going to work for you.

+1
None of her peers will know who Kamala Harris is and our generation will have forgotten. It's a terrible first name boy or girl.

Mercedes is a culturally popular name not based off the car in Spanish Catholic families that I know.
