He probably hates his wife and is doing what he can to make it through the evenings.

Definitely. On the up-side, she must be almost tolerable given that he's managing on such a light dose.

Mich ultra as a middle aged guy I’d be more concerned he’s closeted gay.

+1. Check his car for those tiny airport-sized bottles. Although experienced closet drunks tend to throw them out the window after sucking a couple down on the way home.

This no big deal

I had the same thought. My husband has alcohol use disorder and is now sober. Living through it gives you a sense for what lies beneath, unfortunately.

Yes. The car, work bag, gym bag, workshop/garage, basement cabinets, recycling bin right before it gets picked up.

This is actually a thing, it's called "Texas sober" or something along those lines (?) where the only alcohol they drink is light beer. Reformed drunks who smugly convince themselves they're disciplined for only drinking watered down beer.

My DH drinks Michelob Ultra too. I really don't know how many a night. I think he's drinking it to deal with stress. It's not a good thing. People who drink daily are most likely drinking because their body craves it every 24 hours. Are you a full blown alcoholic? No, most people are pretty functional, but it sucks to feel like you need a drink, and if so, you are not dealing with some aspect of your life.

I used to be one of these people.

Alcohol abuse is a spectrum. The Al-Anon posters are rather unhinged. Before my DH was in recovery, I'd have been thrilled if he dialed it back to 2-3 watery beers a day. Wait until you live with someone who can drink 8-10 10% ABV IPAs a night.

Just watch it closely. Is he getting his liver enzymes checked at his annual physical? It's probably fine, unless he is on a medication that has an alcohol interaction.

He claims it's basically a diet beer and doesn't even give him a buzzy intoxicated feeling. He says he'd prefer to unwind and drink wine with dinner but I do not consume alcohol, so he buys this specific diet beer instead. By the end of every week there's a bag full of nearly 20 beer bottles and it makes me feel like he has a problem.

Google
Michelob Ultra has an Alcohol By Volume (ABV) of 4.2%. 95 calories and 2.6 grams of carbs per 12 oz. serving.

He can save another 10 calories per bottle getting the organic Michelob lol

I think you've convinced yourself that "Landman" is real life.

Some show didn’t make that up. That’s been a thing for decades.
