Husband drinks two, sometimes three, bottles of Michelob Ultra EVERY night

Haha. What’s funny is how everyone clutches their pearls at a couple of low ABV beers on forum a full of women who guzzle a “heavy pour” of wine every night after their email job and every other person in Washington has a script for Adderall and/or Xanax. Wine and pills are sophisticated, beer makes you a prole drunkard.

He claims it's basically a diet beer and doesn't even give him a buzzy intoxicated feeling. He says he'd prefer to unwind and drink wine with dinner but I do not consume alcohol, so he buys this specific diet beer instead. By the end of every week there's a bag full of nearly 20 beer bottles and it makes me feel like he has a problem.

Google
Michelob Ultra has an Alcohol By Volume (ABV) of 4.2%. 95 calories and 2.6 grams of carbs per 12 oz. serving.

I'd be worried about his choice of crappy beer. Also that you're on here posting about a "drinking problem". JFC.

+1 Even three of these a night isn't as much alcohol as a double or triple IPA which a lot of people like. Drinking every single night is not a great habit to get into but this is the equivalent of a glass of wine, alcohol-wise.

This. Projecting their own trauma. I weigh 110 lbs and I can drink a few of this type of beer and be sober.

See. This is dumb of you. Much better for him to drink a very light beer than something ‘cool’ and craft which is much harder on your system.

Her dh also took an advil twice last week. She should probably go to some NA meetings too.

3 michaloeb ultras? That wouldn't even get me drunk, let alone cause an alcohol dependency. He might be addicted to the routine, but I doubt he is even buzzed if he is a man of normal size.

Incorrect.

Two or three bottles of beer per day for a man does not make him an alcoholic; it makes him normal.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not, and I have had plenty of alcoholics in my family and friend circle in my lifetime.

Horrific advice to blow up your family life over a few mich ultras a night. Absolutely insane.

Why would OP suggest her DH move to a higher alcohol content beverage in a bigger bottle? That makes no sense.

I think he’s making excuses why he needs to drink that much beer and acting like he’s making a sacrifice, drinking his second choice of beverage, because OP won’t join him in drinking wine with dinner. He’d buy wine, except that he knows he’d drink even more and it would be obvious just how much he was drinking because he’s the only drinker. Light beer in bottles is his idea of portion control.

He’s bored and unhappy. How’s the sex life? I’m guessing nonexistent if the wife is a newfound teetotaler and is nagging hubby about a few ultra light beers.

I don’t think he’s an alcoholic right now, unless he’s drinking more than you know about and hiding it, but I do think this has the potential to slide into alcoholism if life gets more stressful, it takes more beer to unwind, 3 nightly beers becomes 4 nightly beers, then 5 doesn’t seem like much more, etc.

Men become addicted to the dopamine and sugar rush from beer. Like women who pig out on ice cream or chocolate.

That’s a lot of pee every night for a middle aged man.
