is RKFJr's "Tylenol(TM) causes autism" just a shakedown for extortion money from the company?

How about maternal age having babies in your late 30's and 40's, eggs are way pass use by date.

How about paternal age, which has also been shown to be a high risk factor for autism?

Men need to stop having babies after age 35. Their sperm is past its sell by date.

I’m not going to take advice about drug safety from someone who used to shoot heroin.

Two generations of Western women delaying having children into their mid 30s, then wonder why autism rates skyrocketed.

I had a child in my 30’s who has Level 1 ASD. But there are several relatives in both DH’s extended family and my extended family who would surely have received a similar diagnosis if they were growing up now, and the vast majority of them were born to parents who were in their 20’s. It’s genetic folks.

Absolutely - every serious expert accepts a strong genetic component.

But let's also accept that it is an extremely complex question - even just what genes are involved - and that there may also be some kind of environmental factors.

When an answer is not difinitive, scientific inquiry is OPEN to a variety of possible conclusions. This is one of the absolute worst parts of what RFK does: he makes it seem like the answers are simple instead of extraordinarily complex; like ordinary individuals can make their own determinations instead of needing the assessments and the advice of experts. Destroying our faith not just in doctors, not just in science, but in research and expertise and knowledge -- he is bringing us back to the Middle Ages!

I, for one, am not going. We need to keep following the scientists. If there is a possibility of an environmental factor, let's study it! Let's not say "no" to his every stupid and unfounded "yes." Let's oppose him by supporting the actual researchers who, fortunately, at this point are still doing independent research.

Every Trump cabinet pick has one job: to destroy the agency that he/she leads.

Whoever they’re working for, it’s not the American people.

There is a ton of research on this by the way, linking older men not only to autism, but schizophrenia. More significant and impactful given women's child bearing age is biologically self limiting, but men's is less so.

Oh right! I forgot that sperm is so powerful it alters the mother’s DNA forever, but if anything goes wrong with the baby it’s the woman’s fault.

We really need better sex ed in this country.

I think RFKjr wants to make pregnant women as miserable as possible by eliminating one if the few pain meds (and the only OTC onw) deemed safe for pregnancy

This administration does not seem to want pregnancies at all. I would wait to carry a pregnancy until these clowns are gone if possible.

It’s a popular misconception circulating among younger misogynists, who take a kernel of truth (fetal microchimerism) and twist it into “women contain the DNA of every man they’ve ever slept with”. Then that becomes “the sperm alter her DNA”, and then that becomes yet another reason to control and slut-shame women.

It’s terrifyingly easy to get people to believe scientific absurdities.

This thread is about "Tylenol" vs "acetaminophen", not about whether acetaminophen causes autism. We already have threads about that wormbrainedness.
