UVA and antisemitism on campus: have they taken steps to reduce it?

No, "they" didn't. Jim Ryan resigned on his own, and the Board accepted the resignation. Three were preceding problems, most notably his handling of the three murders last year and what UVA knew about the shooter in advance but didn't act on. Also, Ryan got caught being disingenuous about dismantling the DEI programs - he just renamed them "community affairs office". The Board got pissed. I like the new acting head. And the Board is pushign ahead to find a new President. No one is upset. Ryan was a weak President. Some say he took the coward's way out by resigning.

A forced resignation is not resigning on his own. Don't be ridiculous.

As the parent of a current UVA student I can tell you that everyone at the university is very upset by the removal of Ryan as President. He was beloved on grounds. And you're incredibly naive if you've never heard of someone in a high position "resigning" which many times is code for being pushed out.

Utterly false. Apparently, you aren't on grounds enough to even know about the Jefferson Council. https://jeffersoncouncil.org/news/a-tired-ryan-contemplates-a-difficult-future

Your kid shouldn’t be demonstrating in this manner and neither should mine.

You are out of line telling other parents this, especially when these protesting college students are proving to be on the right side of history. Israel is committing a genocide, and these students sniffed it a mile away. Your tribalism is smothering your sense of morality.

Have they done things to stop this at UVA ?

If you are Jewish you only send a student to a fully blue state at this point in time.
Anything else is bad parenting.

Especially a DD

The blue states are where all the violent, stupid anti-semites are, but whatever, you do you.

Tell us you're a crazy zionist without telling us you're a crazy zionist.

Zionist is code for Jew now. So it’s not cool to say this.

Unbelievable you are denying this. UNBELIEVABLE! I mean, there’s a federal investigation going on!

Here you go, antiSemite:

Sorry but criticism of Israel is not antisemitism.

I agree. Trump has extremist Stephen Miller calling the shots. They were calling protesters pro Hamas, trying to throw people out of the country for writing pro Palestinian opinion pieces. Trump really went after Harvard over this. He was probably rejected.

A study at Harvard showed there were a lot of signs against Zionists and how they were not welcome. I also think some people saw the protests against Israel’s continuing to kill the people in Gaza as antisemitism.

No, it’s not code for Jew. Considering a LARGE portion or Zionists are Christian Zionists. We aren’t letting you getting away with this crap anymore to continue to provide cover for the apartheid state of Israel to do whatever they want with impunity.

This doesn’t actually refute that the whole thing is BS made up by the Trump administration to go after universities.

The sad thing is, there *is* antisemitism at UVA (and everywhere in America)—from NeoNazis. They walked through Grounds eight years ago chanting “Jews will not replace us,” and Trump defended them. They are even bolder now. Let me know when Trump decides to focus on that.

I’m a Jewish alum, btw.

Imagine believing that the existence of a trump investigation about something is proof that it’s happening.

And imagine believing that people will find that logic convincing.

There is a huge portion of our population where if Trump said the sun orbits the earth, they would twist themselves in knots saying that he is right, or we are misunderstanding it, or that we are only disagreeing because we have TDS, or whatever else. The Bible says you shall have only one God yet so many treat him like a God who does no wrong. This is particularly ironic for the holier-than-thou evangelicals who are violating commandments by worshipping him, plus the fact that he constantly violates commandments yet they are OK with this. So hypocritical.

I'm sure I will get some brilliant comebacks to this that were scripted by Fox News. Because they are also unable to think for themselves.

Ryan was going to retire in 2026 anyway. He moved it up a year so as not to distract the university from all the Grump administration bs. He did not resign due to ANYTHING related to OPs “fears of antisemitism” at UVA.

I'm physically there and think the Board has done a terrific job. To prove it, here is UVA's report card from the Anti-Defamation League for 2025. https://www.adl.org/campus-antisemitism-report-card/university-virginia.

+1. The Anti-Defamation League report is the gold standard.

Wrong. The Jefferson Council is composed of students, faculty, donors and UVA alumni. And here is some more published commentary on why many people (law school included) were glad to see him go and why the Board readily accepted his resignation. https://jeffersoncouncil.org/news/president-ryan-resigns-under-scrutiny
