Convinced people who back up into a parking spot in a busy parking garage are narcissists.

Not entirely but it’s saved my ass a few times.

That said, it bothers me to no end when folks are incredibly S L O W parkers. Front or read first, just move with purpose. If you’re slow just head to the back corner of the lot / garage.

You need to budget more time of this really bothers you so much. Jfc, nobody needs to be rushed to park their car so you can get where you are going 10 seconds earlier you loser.

The insistence on backing into parking spaces in parking garages is a ridiculous affectation, and when you do it with a line of people behind you, it's rude.

Here's the difference between the waiting that is done when you back in versus the waiting that is done when you back out. When you back in, everyone behind you has to wait for you (and IME, 90% of you can't get it on the first try). When you back out, *you* wait until the coast is clear, instead of making everyone else wait.

Are you ass-first people also the ones who don't know how to zipper merge? Maddening.

I drive a car without a back up camera. I DGAF if people have to wait 15 seconds for me to park. Y'all should have left your houses earlier.

How is this possible? Everyone learns to drive by pulling into spaces.

Yeah, decades ago. And back then I would often have to readjust or just end up too close on one side.

With rear view cameras I can park a huge SUV or minivan perfectly in between the lines on the first try.

Realistically, if I had attempted to pull in, you would have been waiting A LOT longer.

New drivers are taught to reverse into spaces and tested on it in MD. I think this is why it’s become way more common. My teen is constantly telling me I’m parking incorrectly when I pull forward.

Well that’s a lie! Reverse parking is not part of the test

Stupid post, OP. If you back in, it takes a little more time parking but less time to get out. Front in is the reverse with more time needed getting out. Neither is better than the other. Personally I back in because delayed gratification.

You’re assuming there’s ever a point when the coast is completely clear, and the driver has complete visibility.

And seriously, plan better if this 15 seconds makes or breaks your schedule.

It takes under a minute to back into a space. Less than 60 seconds. If you can't wait that long, then YOU are the problem. Leave earlier and manage your time better. I never back into parking spaces due to laziness, but if that's what you want to do, do it. And you'll be faster on the way out!

Car culture is so crazy. I don't know how we got to a place where everyone in a car feels like they have some inherent right to move as quickly as possible all the time, to hell with other people. Chill. Out.

The problem in event parking is those minutes add up. When you could all take 5 seconds.

Anyone who thinks their opinion of how others park matters is the narcissist.

Backing in makes life easier and safer for everyone. Also as a federal LEO I am required even off duty to back in by my agency.

Pull-through parking for the win, when I can get it.

Great answer here. I'm a backing in parker whenever possible, and am very quick at it with my SUV. Agree, backing out of a parking spot for some people can be just as long.

For people who back in at crowded grocery stores: how do you get your groceries in the trunk? Usually you have another car from the next row over near your rear.
