Serious question but why do old people love ice cream so much?

OP --- serious question... are you now or have you ever had an eating disorder? You seem oddly obsessed about ice cream consumption.

McDonald’s and hope the machine isn’t broken, I think Walmarts have some fast food court cheap ice cream.

It’s nostalgic to them and such a treat! Ooh let’s get an ice cream! Blah blah

It’s a personal preference. My boomer parents have never liked ice cream.

NP. I'm not going to read the whole thread, but both of my parents have been encouraged by doctors to eat more ice cream (and other forms of dairy) to help with bone/muscle density and promote weight gain. Both have lost 20-30 lbs in the wake of surgeries in the past five years.

There are not many ice cream stores around. There are McDonald's all over. So because they can't go to a convenient Baskin Robbins, Friendly's, HoJo, Ben & Jerrys, Steves, or local shop they get McD's.

I've wondered this. I've had more cravings for ice cream as I've aged past 50. I wonder if it's a bone related thing.

Indians, Jews with lactose issues, and IVF babies with a mile long list of allergies.

Huh? Ice cream is cheap as hell. A 48oz container of say Tillamook vanilla bean, which only has a handful of good, natural ingredients, sells for like $6. That container of ice cream will last a boomer 2 weeks. A single slice of mushy pie at a cheap diner is $6.

What kind of a question is this? Even those with dietary restrictions love ice cream.

Do you not realize the No. 1 selling drink at Starbucks -- ordered by teens, college kids, yuppies, and 30-, 40- and 50-something moms -- is a Frappuccino? And that a Frappuccino is pretty much an ice cream milk shake thinned with blended ice?

Assuming you are not lactose intolerant, it's easy to eat if you have dental problems. Or if you have digestive problems or nausea.

It was one of the few high-calorie foods my dad could eat when he was undergoing chemo and very underweight...specifically Jeni's vanilla ice cream.

or the froyo fad about 15 years ago when everyone had to have Pinkberry? or tasti-d-lite when it took over NYC?

People of all ages love ice cream...

No try going to an ice cream shop like Cold Stone , local creamery or cute ice cream shop. The shrieking is embarrassing. Kids are forced to get one small scoop of vanilla NO TOPPINGS …..because they are highway robbery , everyone sad except the boomer with her vanilla scoop.

Because labor, taxes, utilities, real estate, and equipment is all super expensive. But good ice cream at the grocery store is still a very cheap treat.

I love really good ice cream. I think a lot of people don’t care and eat even the really crap ice cream-like the free grainy soft serve served at buffets and stuff.

For a great quality ice cream it’s worth it to me. But only then.
