Is there an ETA? I donāt presume to understand how tsunamiās work, but Iām curious how it works.
Californian here. I have gotten alerts too. You can see the estimated times in this article. However, Iāve seen a lot of warnings in my life and most are canceled or not a big deal.

We will see what happens when the surge hits Hawaii.
Yes as Californians we do get our fair share of tsunami warnings & usually nothing serious occurs.
I personally wouldnāt worry too much about it > this likely will pass.
This one should be taken seriously. It stemmed from a 8.8 earthquake. I canāt believe you would advise not to take a warning seriously after the flash flood warnings and resulting deaths in TX. That attitude is reckless.
Iām not PP but you need to not scaremonger. Santa Barbara is only under an advisory, not a warning, and these are very different.

Obviously OPs kid should heed any advice given by local officials, and I do think this has the potential for serious damage in some areas, but right now, Santa Barbara is not likely to be one of those places.
Itās irresponsible to scaremonger as well as to ignore warnings.
