| Anyone following this? I have a kid in Santa Barbara, just trying to figure out if this is something to be concerned about. |
| I am located in SoCal (San Diego) & I have gotten tsunami warnings on my phone but so far in my area at least (!) everything is still pretty calm + on the news front I haven’t seen or heard anything so that is great news for us. 😃 |
Is there an ETA? I don’t presume to understand how tsunami’s work, but I’m curious how it works. |
|
Hours still.
Curious that POTUS posted and referred people to tsunami.gov Funded by NOAA. That he has gutted. It is almost like the government has an important function |
Californian here. I have gotten alerts too. You can see the estimated times in this article. However, I’ve seen a lot of warnings in my life and most are canceled or not a big deal. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/california-under-tsunami-watch-after-8-7m-quake-in-eastern-russia/amp/ We will see what happens when the surge hits Hawaii. |
Santa Barbara ETA is 12:50 am. |
Yes as Californians we do get our fair share of tsunami warnings & usually nothing serious occurs. I personally wouldn’t worry too much about it > this likely will pass. |
Thanks for sharing! Sending positive thoughts your way, if you’re still in CA, and to your loved ones there! |
Thank you! ❤️ I think we will have a better sense of risk profile in a few hours when Hawaii reports back. I think they need the positive thoughts more than we in California do. |
| California is under an advisory but Hawaii has a full warning, these are different. |
| The first wave is expected to hit Hawaii in 2 hours. |
| An 8.8-- Wow. |
230am |
| OP, as a Californian, make sure your kid does NOT want to “watch the tsunami.” |
This one should be taken seriously. It stemmed from a 8.8 earthquake. I can’t believe you would advise not to take a warning seriously after the flash flood warnings and resulting deaths in TX. That attitude is reckless. |
