What is wrong with you???? |
I am sure the buildings and their locations were approved by the local government. |
DP here. It's like for gun control, PP. We weep for the victims, especially innocent children. This is so evident, it doesn't even need to be said, but I'll say it for the poster who is so upset that they did not spell it out for you. A lot of us get extremely angry because all these deaths could have been prevented, or at least more effort could have been made. But those efforts are not made, because one political faction has decided that this is a political fight, and continues to do everything in its power to stifle research and implementation of climate and gun control measures. Look at all the other countries in the world: they take climate change and gun control seriously, regardless of political party, to the best of their economic abilities. Don't look away from the real problem: the conservatives' unhinged refusal to help society deal with risk. |
Do you honestly believe this tragedy wouldn’t have happened if Kamala had been elected? What about the Asheville flooding? Was that Biden’s fault? There is something seriously wrong with people who make a natural disaster and the death of dozens of innocent people, including children, a political statement. There is nothing the Republicans did to cause this or could have realistically done to prevent it, just as there was nothing the Democrats did or didn’t do for the natural disasters that occurred on their watch. Natural disasters have happened since the beginning of time (remember the dinosaurs) and will happen for the rest of the Earth’s existence. Instead of fighting over how politics are at fault, let’s just focus on all the families whose lives were absolutely shattered. I cannot imagine what they’re going through. |
| I'm sure there is some blame with the current administration, however I've been a witness to an intense flash flood. We had a little bit of warning but I was still shocked by how quickly it came on. I don't think many realize the intensity of these types of flash flooding. |
+1 you can have flooding in literal minutes with a flash flood. There are stories every year about people in a car or hiking or whatever being washed away in a freak flash flood. Not saying this tragedy was unavoidable. The camp itself likely bears some responsibility. |
If we didn't feel deep pain about these poor kids, we wouldn't be angry about politics, PP. Climate change leads to such brutal catastrophes that it would take a united nation to fund research and actions to prevent deaths like the ones we had yesterday. All of the Democrats' praiseworthy action hasn't been enough because the opposing party has stalled at every turn, particularly in red states. The current administration is making things much worse with funding cuts, but you need to understand that the US wasn't well prepared in the first place, because of the cognitive dissonance populations feel when Republicans insert their climate change lies in every discussion. Republicans are ultimately responsible for these deaths, and those of others. And this needs to be said every time innocent victims lose their lives in climate change events. Saying it does not diminish the respect and sorrow we feel for the victims. Quite the opposite! We want justice for them, and justice means doing out best to ensure other innocent lives won't be lost because of insane, entirely wrong-headed and downright murderous views on climate change. |
Potentially less loss of life due to cuts to NWS, but likely not and we'll never know. BUT We certainly wouldn't have AOC or Bernie claiming MAGA was shooting chems into clouds to make the disasters worse. |
NP. You are avoiding what the PP bolded and as a Trump hater, I agree what PP wrote was absolutely grotesque. |
That PP was objecting to the gross reference to little white blond Christian girls in that post, and I agree that was disgusting. |
|
NP. No, I don’t think who is President affected this particular case but it’s a lesson learned on why funding NOAA and NWS is so critical and why putting heads in the sand about climate change is not going to serve anyone. MTC’s comments about this being Dems’ fault are outrageous.
Though I will say, there is something ironic about this mostly affecting a Christian affiliated camp where a lot of elite Texans (likely Republicans) go. It’s tragic no matter what, but perhaps a wake up call that this isn’t just a “lib” problem? |
The older kids in the cabins farther up the hill made it out. They could’ve relocated the kids in the lower lying cabins. But again, maybe don’t pack off an 8 year old to camp. Just because “everyone does it” doesn’t mean you have to. |
There wasn't time!! Are you serious?? They had seconds. |
So you’re back to blaming the parents. Nope, sorry. 8 and 9 year olds have been safely going to camp for decades. |
+1 thank you and I agree. |
