Because then China will really go to war |
Does the EU stand aside because it’s too far away? Because it supports China? |
Why take the heat when the US can do it for you? They also don’t have the navy for it. |
Food sanctions might work. China can't feed itself. |
Food sanctions take time to work and not everyone will go along with it. Russia has been sanctioned for years, and yet they're still fighting. Taiwan doesn't have years. Look at what China did to Shanghai during COVID. China will have no problems starving parts of its population if it feels it's necessary. |

The best thing is to surrender now and let the Chinese take Taiwan. Republicans would never support a military base in Taiwan. MAGA supports China not democracy. |
or we just continue with the status quo for as long as possible. |
Republicans would absolutely support a military base in Taiwan. It would be a good thing for the US to have a base there instead of needing to rely so much on our carriers. We’re already patrolling the “south china sea”. |
That would be a mistake. China is itching to “reunite” Taiwan. It will be tougher on Taiwan than Hong Kong (and Macao), which it has subdued. The CHIPS act in theory is preparing us for a future “without” Taiwan. What we aren’t preparing for is the humanitarian crisis that will ensue in Taiwan. It may not be abused as much as Gaza but it will be abused. If Taiwan falls, will North Korea breach the DMZ and shake things up in the south? |
