Alexandria (outside of Old Town) is definitely not the higher than Burke. You are talking about the areas off Route 1 going south, right?

Who the hell would ever pick some Toll Brothers POS in some HOA in Burke over Del Ray?

NP. One reason is the public schools. Del Ray is ACPS, which is an educational disaster. Burke is FCPS, maybe not as great as 20 years ago, but at least the FCPS students will be physically safe.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes it easier living in a sh*thole like Burke.

I agree. You all live in a bubble. Neighborhoods are not judged solely, or at times even primarily or even at all on the basis of the test scores of the public schools. Some of the top neighborhoods in DC have terrible scores. You realize that most people do not have school-age children, right? Get over yourself.

Maybe it’s a part of GF zoned for Langley but not parts zoned for other schools? Is all GF zoned for Langley?

Tier 1:
1. McLean
2. Great Falls (esp Langley)
3. Old Town Alexandria
4. Arlington (esp North Arlington)
5. Vienna
6. Falls Church (city)
7. Oakton

Tier 1 homes cost slightly less as the bathrooms do not require exhaust fans.

I don't understand why you have Arlington in its entirety vs just signaling out OT of Alexandria. Arlington County is huge, and has plenty of sketch and ugly areas. Plenty. It should be North Arlington as 4.

I was waiting for someone to say this. South Arlington should be in Tier 4.

Some people with kids at home bizarrely assume the majority of NoVA is made up of families of four with two kids living at home.

I live about one mile north of Del Ray and on my street the recent homebuyers were:
DINK couple
Couple whose kids are in college
Couple with one kid at home

West Falls Church is incredible for a middle class family.

Homes in Del Ray and Old Town run about half a million dollars more than the crap in Burke and Fairfax. Is that because they are less desirable? Some of you need to swallow your pride and ego. You're just not good enough for the better areas.

Amazing how many part of Fairfax County were left off of this. Ok...I guess my amazing neighborhood will continue to be an insider's secret for a bit longer.

On a different note, I would love to watch the SAHMs from all of these neighborhoods in a bracket-type take down.

Aside from the above two places, it's Great Falls #1, McLean #2, and after that, it's about how close you live to McLean. So next are Vienna and Falls Church, like a tie for #3. Then Oakton and close-in Fairfax. After that you're mostly splitting hairs.

Why not?

It's like comparing Chevy Chase to Potomac. One is a DC border town, the others are a highway away, it's just more suburban. Just like how you can't compare the Palisades to McLean, but it's right across chain bridge. Too different to compare.

This is a thread that was clearly designed to create a pissing match, but just to assume good faith…

People obviously want/value different things.

If you are looking for a denser neighbourhood with quick access to DC then sure, N Arlington or Old Town Alexandria might be at the top of your list but not everyone works in DC nor does everyone want to live close to neighbours.

Basically, there are at least two different lists in NoVA. One where McLean, Great Falls and possibly Vienna are at the top and another where N. Arlington and perhaps Old Town are at the top. The people buying a nice home in one of these could have bought in either and obviously picked the one they wanted.

If it's all about Langley high school, thats just stupid. And good luck getting your "super star" kid from LHS into a top 25 college anymore. Not to mention the drugs and pressure cooker, entitled social scene. I'll pass.

I see 3 Langley kids headed to Stanford next year and plenty of other good college destinations. Guess they had good luck.

If Del Ray and Old Town are filled with snobby people like this, I’ll happily stay put in my lower ranked suburb with good schools and nice neighbors. Not all of us want to live in that kind of density and it’s not about the price point.

Del Ray used to be cool and arty and then it sold out. Now it is a wanna-be old town and as boring as a suburb but with poorer schools.

Now you've convinced me that they are less desirable.
