Kids aren’t fat because of a cupcake at school. Come on.

I actually joined a strict “no nuts” school but still when we go to school events/performances and a teacher reminds the parents of the no nuts rule, we still have parents asking “but is there REALLY a kid in THIS room with those allergies?” It’s so damn annoying. I’m really grateful that our teacher firmly says “YES we do” without looking at or naming my child but it’s so annoying. And yes, the parents who keep asking this are the overweight and unhealthy ones who are obsessed with snacking. There’s really no need for any of it and it’s very frustrating - I wouldn’t want my kid snacking constantly at school or school events even without the allergies!

Just some solidarity, my kids have zero allergies and this drives me insane as well. It none of any parents business if there is a kid without allergies in that class. And also, maybe the rooms are used for other things- aftercare, etc so any nut residue needs to be kept away.

It isn’t “just one” cupcake at school. It’s 30 kids on a class all bringing in special treats for their birthday, the valentine party, the xmas party, the Halloween, party, candy as prizes for games, pizza days for good behavior or whatever, plus daily crappy breakfast and lunch schools gives out. Schools are passing out junk food literally all the time

Let’s say that it takes 15 min to pass out cupcakes, eat them, and clean up. 15*30=450. 450 min = 7.5 hours. 7.5 h is equivalent to more than one full day of classroom instruction. Not to mention the disruption of stopping class early, adding cupcake duty to the teacher’s workload, etc. I don’t care about the sugar or nutrition, but taking 2-3 min to wish a kid a happy birthday in class without cupcakes vs taking up classroom time seems like a much better use of time. For the kids and the teacher.

Just take your birthday kid out after school. You don’t need cupcakes in the classroom. Kids are allergic to egg. This is no one’s business. One kid ate hummus and blew up due to sesame seed in the tahini paste. These are young kids. They don’t need a cupcake at school at the expense of others. Just sing and move on.

Again - that’s not why they are fat. Stop blaming the schools for your parenting.
