Just astounding that these idiots take ridiculous rumors and run with them.

Wait till the republicans Sturmabteilung come after you. Conservatives would never side with these lawless thugs. MAGA does but maga is all in with the criminal Trump family.

Aren’t you a tiny bit interested to learn about the real murderer gsuspect living in our neighborhood? Or, are you going to keep talking about the make believe thing that didn’t happen?

Is it some need to be connected to a particular story so great that reality becomes optional?

Forest Hills playground is no longer safe, is that genuinely lost on some in the area? The police camera on Brandywine isn’t a clue? MPD crime cards?

The make believe ICE raid or the real murder suspect living down the street? These folks live in an alternate reality. It’s incredible that I pass among these people in the grocery store.

That woman sounds like my sister who declared on social media that she was crying and shaking when she claims ICE come to the Lotte Market. And how was she going to explain this to her second grader, who wasn’t with her. She’s white.

I can’t even with these people.

Now I have actually seen an ICE arrest and my 9th grader was with me, we drove by it twice in our regular after school commute and it was pretty startling so he had some questions and we talked about it. But he’s 15.

The mom sounds unhinged. She appears completely unconcerned with the actual 100% real-life alleged violent MURDERER who lives near her children. But she is very concerned about a bogus ICE raid because “these spaces that are supposed to be safe and child-friendly.” These people need psychological therapy.

I had the same exact reaction. The woman who "alerted her playgroup" (erroneously as it turns out) sounds like a total narcissist. She articulates zero concern about individuals who are being deported without due process; instead she told the reporter that she's "struggling" with how to talk to her toddlers about immigration and whether her brunch plans will be disrupted.

“It feels like even these spaces that are supposed to be safe and child-friendly aren’t anymore, and that just makes all of us question what is going on,” she said. “It makes me wonder, next time we go to a restaurant, will agents come in to continue their work? Should we be out and about with our kids? Is this the new normal?”

Unbelievably self-centered and tone-deaf.

She sounds off? Bet the other moms have noticed, so she has no adults to speak with. Thus the lack of generational boundaries around adult topics with literal toddlers.

Not the first warrant for the arrest of a killer that has been executed in the neighborhood.

Sadly, the father who beat the 5 year old to death on a recent Sunday morning at The Connecticut House is still walking free.

Oh please. Whenever anyone is murdered in DC the first question posed by residents is always how did the victim know him. Murders from neighborhood scuffles, rival crews, and domestic violence don't register. No one cares unless the murder is random and the victim is meets certain criteria.

But protesting deportations allows them to fill their social media pages with self righteousness and back pats.

The victim knowing the killer does not make the killers safe to live around in Forest Hills!

I would never leave my kids for a play date with lying hysteric mom. Feel sorry for her kids she parentifies to dump anxiety on.

+1. These moms apparently have no thoughts on the violence, prostitution, and drug use occurring daily in the buildings next to their kids playground. But, the imaginary ICE raids are a bridge too far. In an alternate reality they’d be grateful that the feds got a real life murder suspect out of the neighborhood. But, then again, they wouldn't gain any social currency from this.

Yes so embarrassing. US citizens scared of having their children kidnapped or left in the street as ICE arrest nannies. Oh and by the way the nannies in NW DC are legal. Rich people use nanny agencies that vet and verify everything about their employees. This also means you are paying taxes, social security, etc.

You would not know this because you watch Fox.

Of course ICE is not going to leave kids in parks. I'm embarrassed for you.

I am also worried about the ice raids without due process. We are living in a terrifying time.

The vast majority of people arrested by ICE have already been ordered out of the country by an immigration judge, but never left. Others are criminals who can be immediately deported "without due process" because they received due process in a criminal court, and now the president can order them deported. The few who are being deported under the Alien Enemies Act are test cases, meant to get a decision from the Supreme Court. People here on student visas can be immediately ordered out by SecState (didn't you watch Madam Secretary?) All of those students will ultimately lose in court.

I really don't understand why all of you don't understand that actions have consequences. If people enter and remain in a country illegally (and continue to break other identity and work laws while here), they have made themselves vulnerable to arrest and deportation. It is their decision, because they thought it was worth the risk. Well, now those chickens are coming home to roost and I place the blame on them, not law enforcement.

Are we even sure if these people are true ice agents? I’ve never seen ice agents wear jeans. And what’s with the neck gators/facemasks?

Astounding that this thread has been allowed to stand. It is based on an entirely fabricated rumor that has been disproven.

Sounds like the typical DCUM poster. Believing idiotic rumors and then embellishing them further to feed their own need for drama and attention.

Far be it for bloviating lies to take a life of their own.

I talk to a very happy Trump supporter regularly. He told me he was wary of the mainstream media and only watched individuals he thought he could trust.

He had never heard of international students having their visas revoked for sometimes minor traffic violations, and sometimes no reason at all; he had never heard of Germans, French, British, Australian, Canadian citizens being detained at the border and refused entry even though their visas or tourist waivers were all in order; and he had never thought of "gang member" deportees being anything other than what the government claimed, and thinks that due process could very well be minimized for such situations, given what he thinks is the urgency of dealing with so many migrant criminals. Furthermore, he claimed that his news sources had proof that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was a gang member and had been caught in a human trafficking operation (the NYT says he had a deportation protection and was never found guilty of human trafficking).

So clearly the people who think we're all hunky-dory are insulated from the certain pieces of news. They can only be reached if we fall into a severe recession. My dear MAGA friend thinks the tariffs will cause short-term pain for long-term gain.

This is most people. What you listed has affected a very very small % of people. Very few people have been detained at the border. Most of what everyone is upset about - conservative and liberal - is entirely from the media.

The truth is most Americans don’t care if illegal immigrants are deported. They just don’t.

The very fact that I’m looking through my phone for potentially anti Trump messages and emails before re-entering the country is disturbing in itself.

What a stupid and hysterical, rumor-mongering thread.

Anonymous wrote:There are real concerns about ICE raids and I absolutely worry about the suspension of due process and targeting people with legal status. I also just generally opposed a mass deportation effort, even for undocumented people -- I think a guest worker program with amnesty for those who willingly makes more sense and would make it easier to report people who are truly noncompliant.

BUT

The "activism" (I was going to say well intentioned but honestly I don't know) of people who would spread a rumor that ICE was detaining nannies and leaving children unattended at a city park, something that someone clearly made up and then spread as a lie to other parents for reasons I don't understand is stupid, and scary.

I have been on the receiving end of several of what turned out to be FALSE rumors of ICE at schools, in neighborhoods, or at local businesses. It makes me mad. Stop spreading false rumors, which just stress people out for no reason! Do not share info like this unless you saw it with your own eyes (and only share what you actually saw, don't invent a whole scenario based on a few clues -- just the facts).

Some of you are off the deep end here. Stop. You are not helping.
