Does anyone know anything about how welcoming and accommodating Glenelg is of gender-nonconforming and trans kids?

I don't, but I do know Barrie regularly wins awards from Blade for that sort of thing.

Stay away from Indian Creek. We found it very unwelcoming and bordering on racist. It honestly felt like Annapolis Yacht culture. There was also an incident a couple years ago at a sporting event between Indian Creek and The Park School where Indian Creek players were accused of using racially targeting language. What was equally disturbing is the way the Indian Creek coaches dismissed it as just part of competitive sports. Look it up for yourself.

I've heard a lot of negative things about Glenelg including poor leadership, high turnover, snobby parents, and even some racism. Can anyone speak to these rumors? Anyone here attend of know of people who attend?

It's too late to apply to lottery or magnet public schools, and folks are aware of their in-boundary schools, so here are some independent schools with traits shared by SSFS:

Barrie, Silver Spring, Pre-k-12
Bullis, Potomac, K-12
Burgundy Farm Country Day School, Alexandria, pre-k-8
Christian Family Montessori School, pre-k-8
Edmund Burke School, DC, 6-12
Field School, DC, 6-12
Friends Community School, College Park, pre-k-8
Friends Meeting School, Ijamsville, k-12
Georgetown Day School, DC, pre-k-12
Green Acres, Bethesda, prek-8
Lowell School, DC, pre-k-8
Oneness Family School, Bethesda, pre-k-12
Parkmont School, DC, 6-12
Sheridan School, DC, pre-k-8
Sidwell Friends, DC pre-k-9

Friends Community School is K-8. They don’t have Pre-K.

As for St. Andrew's, it depends on the grade level. Some likely have space.

Green Acres waived their application fee for SSFS too. Check your parent chats for the code. I also liked that they acknowledged our community on their website. I appreciate the schools who have been kind in this process; not all of them have…

I have a close friend with 2 kids that went there for MS and HS. The son is gay and don’t think he had any issues there.
We’ve been to the school for Destination Imagination events and the library seems to have books that are diverse and welcoming. I realise that’s not the student body or staff but it’s something I noticed when we were there.

Thanks for the list. Which one of these schools would be best for a rising 9th grader who needs academic support? And rigor is similar to ssfs? So for not a very academic student who struggles with math and just needs support.
