U.S. says it is now monitoring immigrants' social media for antisemitism

extremists and terrorist aliens

I guess that will be the language cited when they begin turning these policies on citizens.

Step 1: Label citizen an extremist
Step 2: CECOT?

Why is it good? Why don't they monitor for other racist posts? Why just pick anti-semitism?

Because I’m a Jew and we don’t need to be importing Jew haters.

It’s a free country. People have first amendment rights, even if you find it personally abhorrent

You should know better.

People around the world do not have first amendment rights. They should not be treated as just exercising rights when evaluating who should come to this country.
If someone is saying Death to Jews, Death to Israel, I don't think that is worth bringing them here.
Bringing in a million Muslims a decade I do not think is healthy either. Britain is close to becoming a Muslim country.

I can’t find the quotes post above - it must have been deleted. The problem is that antisemitism has been defined to mean anything that Israel doesn’t want people saying. I went to a phot exhibit in my town of a collection of images of Palestinians photographed eating their former (pre 1948) homes (almost all destroyed). It was very benign. There were Jewish groups outside protesting the “antisemtic” exhibit.

So under this new policy, if someone attended such a show would they be deemed antiseemetiv and deported?

That’s chilling.

My husband and all of my in-laws are Jewish from the NY area and all came here pre WW2. All support the existence of Israel, sent their kids on Birthright trips, had them bar/bat mitzvah’d etc.

They all believe Israel has a right to defend itself. And yet they can still all acknowledge that Netanyahu has crossed many lines in Gaza and the West Bank settlers have long been a black eye on Israel.

And all of them are against what is happening in the US right now with deportations and detainments. It should not make anyone, Jews included, feel safer.

Well, I'm Asian American, and we don't need to import Asian haters. My neighbor is black, and we don't need to import black people haters.

So, where's the monitoring for that?

Don't be daft, Asians and Blacks didn't bankroll his campaign, with Trump you get what you pay for.

So Trump is a Nazi who is :checks notes: controlled by the invisible Jewish hand.

Please get some therapy.

You can't criticism another country? A specific country? Batshit insane. All the more reason why our relationship with Israel should be criticized and scrutinized.

So are we allowed to criticize orange king? MAGA you are all about criticizing the government cursing them out and being vile. Are you good with your phones being monitored in AMERICA????? slippery slopes

Aah yes being able to see both sides and have intelligent discussions....those were the days. Agree~ Every American should be shaken to the core-we are being stripped of our rights and freedoms. Congrats MAGA.

So, as a Jew, you're okay using the similar fascist tactics that the Nazi's used on Jews and other groups? Shame on you.

I bet they aren't a jew just a nasty MAGA.

Seems unlikely.

But if being hysterical makes you feel better, have at it.

Raising awareness and speaking up for children mercilessly being killed by the IDF is being pro-Hamas? Get out of your here with your Islamophobia. You truly have a depraved heart for attacking Ms Rachel with such bogus claims.

We're not special enough, apparently.

This is what bugs me emotionally. Cherry picking the hate speech we care about.

But on a larger scale, we really shouldn't be cracking down on free speech at all. Violent speech is different. People posting things that advocate violence or destruction. Yeah. Crack down on that. For sure.

There is a lawsuit currently going forward allegedly showing that several foreign actors did this in relation to some of the campus protests in the wake of oct. 7.

It's not bc Jews are "more special" than other minority groups, just a reflection of the current moment. Obviously you can be critical of Israel and not be anti-Semitic, but that line can also be blurred. Hostile foreign actors don't really care ima out the nuance, they just want to further stoke domestic division. And a new immigrant, especially if they come from a place where actual jew-hatred is perfectly mainstream, is currently an ideal target.

Then why don't they monitor Russians' social media activity more? You know they are trying to destroy the US from the inside out, and they are doing a fine job of it with Trump in power.

There was that Russian woman who was basically a spy for Putin who gained entry into MAGA Trump's orbit. IMO, they need to ban all Russians coming in.

I agree. These things are not black and white. They are complex. You can support a nation but not support certain actions it takes.

I fully support Israel's right to exist, and I want it to thrive. At the same time, my heart aches for massive destruction of innocent Gazans. I loathe loathe loathe Hamas, and always will. And I am kept up at night worrying about the hostages - I don't know if I could have survived having a loved one taken hostage like that. The mental anguish is overwhelming. But blanket destruction of Gazans isn't the way to get them back. Some people choose to speak up about different aspects of this horrific situation. They does not mean they support terrorism.

That's f*n scary, and clearly this isn't just about anti-semitism. They profiled the dude because he had a Muslim sounding name.

I wonder how the Muslim Americans who said they would not vote for Harris are feeling now. If I were them, I'd be afraid to leave the country.

So, Trump's admin is targeting Muslims and Hispanics, demanding to see their papers. But, they freely welcome in Russians. Hmm.. what's the difference, I wonder. MAGA /s
