Why is it good? Why don't they monitor for other racist posts? Why just pick anti-semitism?

Because I’m a Jew and we don’t need to be importing Jew haters.

Well, I'm Asian American, and we don't need to import Asian haters. My neighbor is black, and we don't need to import black people haters.

So, where's the monitoring for that?

We're not special enough, apparently.

Isn't this Trump putting one group of people over another, like he claims that DEI does.

Don't think someone at 1600 PA even understood DEI. Give old grandpa a pass, but look closely at those around him.

Bc if we can see their antisemitic social media posts then so can hostile foreign actors--and these immigrants can then be targeted/cultivated to actively promote hostilities. There is a lawsuit currently going forward allegedly showing that several foreign actors did this in relation to some of the campus protests in the wake of oct. 7.

It's not bc Jews are "more special" than other minority groups, just a reflection of the current moment. Obviously you can be critical of Israel and not be anti-Semitic, but that line can also be blurred. Hostile foreign actors don't really care ima out the nuance, they just want to further stoke domestic division. And a new immigrant, especially if they come from a place where actual jew-hatred is perfectly mainstream, is currently an ideal target.

Interestingly, some Jewish groups have disavowed this approach. For example, this group quoted in the article:

J-Street, a Washington group which describes itself as pro-Israel, pro-peace and pro-democracy, was quick to disavow the new policy.

"The fight against antisemitism won't be advanced by attacks on 250-year-old cherished American rights like free speech," said the group's president Jeremy Ben-Ami.

"The Trump administration's own appointees have social media accounts riddled with antisemitism, demonstrating how insincere they are in claiming their totalitarian attacks on higher education and immigrants will make Jewish Americans safer and that they are motivated by genuine concern for our wellbeing."

Also, in response to the abduction of the Turkish student in a Boston suburb a few weeks ago, 50 rabbis in the Boston area signed a letter condemning the act and calling for the student's release. They are skeptical about the Trump administration's purported concern about fighting anti-semitism. You can read the letter here. So clearly not all Jews think this sort of thing is a good idea.

I’m not surprised that many Rabbis in the Boston area would be against picking people off the streets in an unmarked car who has not committed a crime. People in that area are educated, reasonable people. It’s only extremist who would have no problem with this

Have they taken a look at the head of Doge, that Nazi guy?

Wrong. They have tried to quiet dissent against Israel and the excessive brutal murders and destruction happening. Anyone who’s upset about what’s happening to the Palestinian citizens is named pro Hamas followed by terrorist. It’s what countries with dictators do.

Be careful of there. People are getting detained at airports for being anti-genocide, anti-apartheid, anti-ethnic cleansing and anti-occupation

There’s the money part of it of course, plenty of wealthy people funded Trump’s campaign for explicit purpose of advancing Israel’s agenda, that’s one aspect. The second is that this issue has divided the Democratic Party, it may very well have cost democrats the youth vote and he wants to keep it that way, he wants democrats to remain fractured so here’s the perfect opportunity.

He will continue to do this as this benefits him and republicans immensely, I am not sure if democrats can find their way out of this.

I’m also a Jew. A Jew who’s about to make the chopped liver and the chicken soup for the Seder.

What if the administration ends up tilting toward Qatar and wants to purge people who are too pro-Smotrich?

If you are critical of Israel you will lose your job and be arrested in the US. Clearly the jewish religion is the only religion receiving this protection from the US government. Why?

What about how we are against affirmative action. No group should get preferential treatment.

You definitely can be anti Muslim and anti Iranian. It looks like all Ivy League presidents will have to be right wing pro Israeli jews by force of the federal government. Could you imagine if this was the case for Catholics or Muslims?

It’s a free country. People have first amendment rights, even if you find it personally abhorrent

You should know better.

Let’s be serious, how many Asian hater and Black hater groups commit nearly 99% of global terror attacks.

It is only chilling if you are an antisemite, OP. If only there were a word to describe . . . oh yeah,

NAZIS.

I really do not have any problem with the Department of Homeland Security hunting down Nazis.

The article’s intro quoted by OP mischaracterizes the government’s statement, which reads in full:

“ In a statement issued Wednesday morning, the Department of Homeland Security said it will "protect the homeland from extremists and terrorist aliens, including those who support antisemitic terrorism, violent antisemitic ideologies and antisemitic terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, or [the Houthis]."”
