So why are we paying federal taxes?

Reread the Constitition on what the govt protects you from. There's a charter in there on duties of the govt.

It isn't robbing Peter to pay Paul. You aren't "entitled".

You are neither witty nor snappy.

It is kind of odd that middle class pays the bulk of the taxes, but really, we all work for corporations and businesses or what not. The businesses and corporations then turn around and lobby to try to tell us what to do with the money we paid in taxes. I mean if taxes go up don't wages have to go up.

Anyway, people who take your money and give it to the banks instead of providing services to you aren't your friends. Interest, it's like a bank tithe.

Just think of all the services we could be providing if we didn't have to pay interest on loans we took out. That is dumb.

No government loans are not like playing the stock market instead of paying off your student loans or mortgage. We aren't making more profits elsewhere. That money is just gone.

Not just at the IRS. They fired the whole section at DOJ that prosecutes big-time tax offenders. So now its no problem to cheat--you probably won't get caught and if you do you won't get prosecuted. Any "savings" DOGE finds will be dwarfed by the drop in tax revenue once all the fat cats stop paying the tiny amounts they already can't manage to shelter or offshore.

Because I don’t want to go to jail

I don't believe that is the case any longer now that we are in the "Golden Age" of Trump. If the government no longer: ensures our access to clean air and clean water; protects us from infectious diseases; pays for vital research to address major health conditions like cancer; protects from losing our civil rights; ensures the welfare of our veterans; or provides basic customer service for such important government programs as social security, and so on and so forth, then WHY ARE WE PAYING FEDERAL TAXES?

I think the states should just impound withholding and use it in their state to replace the funds that Trusk has illegally held back from state and local governments and nonprofits and universities. The actions taken by Trusk are illegal, but it will take too long for the lawsuits to be resolved, and by that time, the damage is done. Why give Trusk our money? This goes for Red and Blue states. Every state should do this. No more money to the federal government. Keep it in the states. Except Social Security. That has to keep getting paid.

State government can do this, not you. Yeah, it's far-fetched, but was any of the destruction and illegality by the Trump regime entirely predictable. I don't think any of us realized how much damage they could do so quickly. It's horrifying, yet it's happening. I lost my job on Monday, and I don't even work for the government. Didn't. Tens of thousands of highly skilled, dedicated people are out of work because of the richest man in the world. Oh, and BTW, he doesn't believe in "empathy," so don't expect him to care about anyone else's suffering.

Americans are going to be really shocked when their state taxes increase to cover the federal programs cut by DOGE. Or suffer the dire consequences of their state not continuing the programs that were cut The red states are going to be hit the hardest.

If DOGE has been supposedly cutting billions from the federal government and Trump still wants Congress to raise the debt ceiling - isn’t that a red flag for you that something smells fishy? If you were that concerned about the debt why did you vote for Trump for a second term after he increased the national debt during his first?

Has anyone gotten a refund? I'm due about $1,000. And I'd like to actually get it

My parent was supposed to get 14K back in February, and it has not shown up.

I don’t; I receive credits so my tax burden is negative. I don’t expect it to stay that way for long though.
