So why are we paying federal taxes?

So if our model of government is becoming one in which the federal government is only going to provide protection from external enemies, we should expect to pay proportionally less to the federal government for the bare minimum services we are receiving and more to our states.

I don't believe that is the case any longer now that we are in the "Golden Age" of Trump. If the government no longer: ensures our access to clean air and clean water; protects us from infectious diseases; pays for vital research to address major health conditions like cancer; protects from losing our civil rights; ensures the welfare of our veterans; or provides basic customer service for such important government programs as social security, and so on and so forth, then WHY ARE WE PAYING FEDERAL TAXES?

These were not primary reasons to tax incomes.

I mean, yeah they are. Those are all basic governmental functions.

Read what the federal govt funded before the civil war that was intent of the framers. It's gotten out of hand since then

I would be more than happy to let the red welfare states live without blue state money. Can we get to this quickly?

General Washington mandated inoculation his men against smallpox in 1777. Veteran welfare has always been a part of military service, which is a primary government function. Clean water is civic. Investment in innovation is in the constitution (the Patent Office).

Social Security is about the only basic governmental function that was not around in the time of the Founders. That's the one that you want to get rid of? Really?

At this point let's just separate the states. We are no longer united and most of us are not interested in a MAGA hatred filled dictatorship.

Considering that the current administration is actively ignoring/trashing the Constitution, the “original intent” defense doesn’t fly anymore.

Oh, they still have the automated system that processes and flags average people’s returns. They only fired the auditors that oversee the 1%.

We’re entering a new era of taxation without representation.

Well since you wrote it all caps we know you are serious. Though, based on the OP, I don’t expect your income tax liability to be very significant anyways.

Don’t fall into this trap, Democrats. They are TRYING to make people question what they’re getting for $7 Trillion in federal spending

Has anyone gotten a refund? I'm due about $1,000. And I'd like to actually get it

Under Trump, there isn't even protection from external enemies.

The framers didn't envision "arms" with the destruction of an AR-15; the framers didn't envision an internet or phones or satellite dishes or consolidation of the means of production or cars or airplanes...should we just ban all of these things and go back to living like Ma and Pa Ingalls?

No they are not. You need a basic civics lesson.
