What do you think of Lola for a girl?

All of those that are saying "Lola isn't professional sounding. Give her a REAL name" realize that the hiring manager is probably going to be a Neaveh or La-a or similar name, right?

By the way - one of my best friends, who is an attorney is named Lola. Smart, classy, loads of fun.

PP, we think a like. Yup, most of these harpies and their attitudes will probably be dead in 18 years. I considered Lola for my DD just didn't work well with our last name.

I, too, have a dear friend by the name of Lola who is an attorney. She's intelligent, gorgeous, charming, and tough as nails.

Woah, I thought I'd live longer than age 50! Thanks for the warning.

What Beatles song has a Lola in it? Or is PP thinking of the Kinks song?

10 years ago people would've said there would be a fat chance in hell for someone named Barack Hussein to become president. Things change. 20 years from now, there may be President Lola. Or Dr. Lola. Or Lola the top exec.

So true! As PP said, the Kinks song probably won't even be relevant anymore.

p.s. I don't even know the other song. Who's Barry Manilow?

Even if all the Kinks fans are dead in 35 years, Lola is still a dumb sound.

I think Lola is a beautiful name. I say go for it.

Those people who would judge a name as not professional sounding on a resume should be ignored. If it wasn't the name, they'd find something else to be superior about. Plus, even if they wouldn't hire her b/c of her name, your child not want to work for such a d-bag anyway.

Like it better for a boy. L-O-L-A, like the Kinks song.

There are two associations with this name, neither of them great.

"She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita."

and

"I met her in a club down in old Soho, where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola, c-o-l-a cola..."

Agree that it's cutesy for a baby, but not a good choice for later on. What about Layla instead? Or Lara, Lila, Lyra, etc.

DONT DO IT!

Well I left home just a week before,
and I've never ever kissed a woman before,
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand,
and said, "Little boy, gonna make you a man."

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man,
but I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man,
and so is Lola.
Lo lo lo lo Lola. Lo lo lo lo Lola.

Both Layla and Lila are way to popular.

Lola for your daughter!!!!!! In my tribe(African) the word "LOLA" means "Trouble".
But that's not to discourage you because this is America anyway and you can decide what you wish.
Good luck

I think the name is cute. And, since I first read this post, I cannot stop singing the song. I'm 35; I'd ask people in their 20s (who will wind up being in charge in employment situations) what they think.
