Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| We have friends who used it. I had a little bit of the same first reaction as others, but it's a nice name and I agree that your child will make it her own. |
| I think both actually - it's cute, especially for a little girl, but I think "she was a showgirl" immediately. |
| It makes me think of Kelly Ripa's daughter's name. Or Lola Falana. |
| I can't help but start singing "Copacabana" in my head when I hear it, sorry. |

Lola = Lolita

Give her another first name and use Lola as the nickname. That way she has the option of a more professional name if she wants it when she gets older.
How about Charlotte? Lorena? Louisa? Lorinda? |
| I think that it is gorgeous and sophisticated. I don't think showgirl at all. |
| Like Isla - this makes me think of Madonna too. Doesn't she have a daughter named Lola??? Do we have a Madonna junkie on the board? |
| I know 2 - one a nickname for Lourdes, the other for Lorelei |
Agree. There is a study somewhere by linguists that showed that female names with two different /L/ sounds within the name were judged by Americans to be the sexiest among women's names (Lola, Lolita, Lolly, Lorelei, Lulu, etc). I'll see if I can find the study or an abstract online; it was from 10 years ago or so. anyway -- and this is just me -- I would never saddle my daughter with a "sexy" name. shudder. |

9:10 again. Forgot Leyla, Layla, Leilani, Lila, Liliana ... (all increasing in popularity, I think). The name "LaLa" is actually somewhat common among blacks and black Hispanics.
You can sort of see the evidence for the L _L_ = "sexy" because these names are overrepresented in rock song muses. Lola, Lola, Layla Still trying to find that study for ya |
| Stripper name. Sorry. |
My thoughts exactly. From the namipedia: "In Polish Lola (LOH-la) is an uncommon nickname for Karolina, even more rarely for Laura, Leonia and Eleonora." I also like the suggestions above. And the list of real-life Lolas show its prevalence in show business rather than, say, academics or law. "Lola Montez (born Eliza Rosanna Gilbert), Irish dancer and actress, mistress of Ludwig I of Bavaria Lola Falana, American dancer Lola Beltrán, a Mexican singer nicknamed "Lola, La Grande" ("Lola, the great") Lola is the nickname of singer Madonna's oldest daughter Lourdes. Daughter of Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Daughter of Chris Rock Daughter of Jenny Garth " |
| We're thinking Lyla (I also posted on the Ayla thread....they're 2 on our list). I figured Lyla was easier to spell than Ayla and better known. I'm stuck on thinking it may be a little stripper-y also, though. Lola definitely sounds a little strippery although.....for both of the names.....they are rising in popularity and it may not be an issue in the future. |

I love it. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with our last name, but I think it's great.
