| Great choices! For me, Potomac would be hard to turn down. |

Was this year harder year for kindergarten acceptances for new families? More siblings applying?
Felt like there were a lot of waitlists this year. For those accepted to K at Potomac Maret Beauvoir NPS Sidwell Norwood Bullis would you be comfortable sharing which preschool your child attended ? |
|
Well today is the contract due date. Good luck and congratulations on your final selections! Apparently it was a competitive year, so kudos to everyone.
Fingers crossed for anyone still on the waitlist. Let us know if you get any updates |
| At the Sidwell admitted students event, there was a wide range of preschools from the families that we met. Some known, local ones, but also schools I had never heard of before. I think Sidwell is very purposeful in not becoming a feeder for any one school. |
An elusive Potomac admission! Please tell us anything about your kid/family you are willing to share. I know that’s a loony tunes question but nobody on this board seems to have any clue who gets accepted to Potomac for K. |
I am curious too! It wasn’t a popular choice for families at our (DC) preschool which typically sends a lot of kids to private. There was a friend of my kid’s who went there for K - when we asked what the school was like, the only thing that the parents mentioned was “it’s a bit more conservative” than DC schools. |
My kid loves puzzles and games (100 piece puzzles, adult strategy games that are not text heavy like splendor, machi koro, ticket to ride); is really good at mental math (three digit addition, adding time like 45 mins after 1:30 is 2:15, understands basic fractions like a quarter of 12 is 3); seems to be generally athletic and attracted to sports; taking piano lessons; is an early reader (level 1/2 books). |
Which did you choose? |
Anyone have success with waitlist movement? |

Can anyone share where their child went to preschool in order to gain admissions at Sidewell, Potomac, Maret, GDS, or Lowell?
I'm starting to feel overwhelmed by the amount of preschools in the area and not sure which to narrow down to. I live in Arlington so schools in DC are pretty easy commute. |
Lowell is an easy one to answer. They have a preschool, so start in the lowest grade there and progress through. Don’t know anything about Potomac. GDS, Sidwell and Maret don’t have feeder preschools. The first two open spots in PK and K, so apply in PK and if you don’t get in, try in K. Maret is known to have a very small kindergarten class and a large number of siblings/ kids of alums, but they open up spots in 1st grade, so you can apply a second time if needed. |
Our DC went to a no name preschool and got into most of the “hard” K admits. I wouldn’t stress it. Just have a good application and prepare your DC to do a good job at the play date |
|
| Yup. Another no name preschool here. What matters is that DC has a good preschool experience! |
| Country Day is close depending on where you are in Arlington. It tends to feed to Potomac. |
