K: Accepted at GDS. WL at Sidwell and Maret.
PK: Accepted at Sidwell. WL at GDS

Does anyone have a good sense for how sibling preference works at GDS and Sidwell? Ultimately, I'd like to consolidate the kids into a single school.

We got WL at both Sidwell and GDS but I would have been concerned for our younger child if we did get in bc they notoriously reject siblings due to the crazy amount of applications they get. That being said, I’d reach out and ask the odds of getting the other sibling off the wait list and tell both they’re your first choice

Good at both but I would actually say marginally better at Sidwell.

Something similar happened to us years ago at Sidwell - one kid got in and one got waitlisted. I say pick the school you think will be a better fit for your family for the long term. Enroll the one that got admitted and tell them you'd like to keep them together and if accepted off the waitlist you would enroll.

What do you mean? Do you think there is a higher bar for siblings?

No they just can’t accommodate every sibling and there are many. It does not mean it’s impossible though

WL at Maret, GDS and Beauvoir

Want to send a first choice letter to school where it might matter. Any sense for best chance? Does having family friends with kids at the school send letters of support help? And is there any real chance at any of these places or should I give up now?

Probably not to the family friends question unless they are big donors or otherwise relevant.

I would say Beauvoir, Maret and GDS in that order of likelihood.

Was it NPS? Malcolm there is so nice!

I had Malcolm as a teacher at STA (when I was at NCS) almost 25 years ago, and he was one of the best!

They don't take it personally and they appreciate knowing ASAP so they can go to their waitlist. It's a nice courtesy to do as soon as you know you are not accepting.

Someday, people will understand that someone declining an offer of admission doesn’t lead a school to tap their waitlist.

You are right but also someday people will understand that holding off telling a school is actually really frustrating for an admissions dept. They are trying to keep a close eye on their numbers. Some ppl hold off telling them immediately to spare their feelings but that’s actually much worse.

I was surprised that only one of our schools had a decline button in Ravenna (Lowell). So we will have to email the other 3. We plan to send on Monday, considering working hours

Congrats. Potomac K is one of hardest to get into bc of legacy siblings and VIPs. Do you have a connection there ?

No connections! Was worried actually because I heard lots of kids who have sibling preference were applying from my kid’s preschool.

Most schools over accept with the assumption some will decline. They don't go to the waitlist with every decline.
