Do you give up anything for 40 days?

You can drink wine on Sundays. Sunday is a holy day that doesn't count as Lent. Drink up!

Yep, it isn't 40 consecutive days so you can do whatever it is you want on the Sundays (which is kind of odd though)

This is really nice.

I on't think it's so nice to pick a person a day. It sees sort of phony to me. Why not 2 or 3 people one day and none the next? how does it help to pick a person a day?

And why not whenever you want, lol, why just these 40 days.

There's a religious reason for it. Sunday is the day of the resurrection. Just like Friday is supposed to be a fast day (of sorts) all year long, Sunday is a feast day (of sorts) all year long. Even though it's the season of Lent, on Sundays you still remember Jesus was raised from the dead and that proved he was judged the righteous atonement for our salvation. Who wants to fast for that?

This is not spiritual, it's just going on a diet. Jesus doesn't care if you lose that extra 10.

Jesus doesn't care because he doesn't exist.

Because it creates a habit. Doing something once a day creates a habit.

A couple years ago I did a similar length where if I saw something nice I said something nice. I like your earrings. Your shoes are really cool. I saw you be kind to that waitress. That was nice.

It’s about five or six years later and I still do it.

A suspect after I will continue and in a few years, I will be doing exactly what you suggest.

It really should be normalized to do so but when done, people will either give you a weird look, or quickly say thank you and go away like you are a weirdo, or think you are hitting on them. these were usually the reactions, sadly wasn't trying to be weird and definitely not trying to hit on someone.

I’m continuing giving up alcohol during Lent because it’s still a struggle for me and I don’t need to add to my plate right now. And God willing, I’ll continue to give it up after forever! Haven’t touched the stuff and I was drinking 2-3 bottles of wine a night.

Some years what God's already brought you to is enough. Keep up the hard work PP, and may you be strengthened in your recovery.

That is amazing OP. Wishing you continued success in your sobriety.

At the gym today, the lady in front of me on cardio machines was watching and listening to the Today show on her phone with full volume. So annoying since I forgot my Airpods. Anyway, i spent the entire workout breathing deeply and thinking positively, determined not to be annoyed. I actually did it and have stayed in a positive mindset since.
