OOS acceptance rate is comparable to UCLA and Berkeley and UNC, and more competitive than Michigan, UVA, and UT.
OOS tuition is tops for a Top 10 public institution … |

Way overrated public where the good student Florida redneck strivers end up.
The Florida elite doesnt send their kids to Gainesville…. |
What a weird post. |

Did he apply to the honors college? I'd do that too.
I grew up in Florida, many of my friends went to UF. It can be a party school but can be good for someone who's focused. It's a large school and comes.with the challenges of some larger intro classes and registration struggles you get at most large schools. Gainesville really doesn't have much going on other than the school and is kind of off by itself, which can be a.mixed bag. Florida weather is no joke. It rains pretty much every day and then feels like a sauna and the heat is in every pore. Having experienced both would literally take a Chicago January over a Florida August. |
| Odd. I lived bthere and only had the brief, intense downpours during summer. Fall and winter are glorious. Huh. |
Not me. |
Better weather. Everything else worse. It's not 1995 anymore. |
Yeah, I don't get this either. Days of all day rain are pretty rare. Heat, sure and isolated thunderstorms and rain. It will be very hot in August to October or so. After that? Nearly perfect weather. |
I’m from Florida and that true. -redneck striver who got out |
Sounds like you have a lot of insecurities linked to your upbringing. Pretty sad for a middle aged person to be so stuck. |
Summer starts in March, and ends in October. It’s relentless humidity, you’ll be in air-conditioning boxes for most your time there. Winter is fine I agree |
Absolutely true, I have had lots of counseling to deal with my rough upbringing, and the difficulties that I had to overcome to have a life in the DMV. would not recommend Florida for that reason, as you’ll be going to school with my peers from similar backgrounds |
| Its florida. So that is a no. |
You are still stereotyping a state you left 20+ years ago and kids you have never met. I'm in FL and I'm not sure what a "redneck striver" is. Everyone I know is from outside Florida/outside the US. |
Why in the world do you think I left 20 years ago? It’s true, but I still go back and have family and friends there. It’s not like it’s had a renaissance - the people who are moving to Florida post pandemic are of similar type. Maybe you know Miami? That’s a different state entirely than the rest of Florida, which is more Mississippi and Georgia |
