He or She knew. They are just trying to be political. There is a lot of that in this forum. |
He said "Public Ivies". Forbes calls it the "Ivies" https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/forbes-releases-list-of-new-ivies-with-multiple-colleges-from-the-midwest-making-the-cut/3429809/ |
| I remember reading somewhere that UF is really good for kids who want to get into AI. I think UF is the only school to have a supercomputer. Also, UF has tons of AI courses. |
They have had online learning ie televised classes at UF since the 90s |

My daughter is a senior (actually graduated in 3.5 so she’s doing a masters for the rest of this year). Loves UF, it is competitive but she likes that big spirit school and picked it over VA schools and the price isn’t that different. There are lots of online business classes, but the students usually like those too.
We fly into mco usually bc cheapest, but Jax is closer. Theres more rental cars available there than at gnv too. Best hotels for location and ease are usually ac hotel and there’s one actually on campus. We usually pick a Hilton chain though (home2 or regular Hilton), drury is fine too but not as close to campus. The swamp restaurant is a hangout-ish place. Fun place to also see is depot park and 4th st food park. |
Thank you! Exactly the kind of information that I was looking for. I did notice that UF is pretty generous in terms of accepting credits. My son will have about 45 credits going in. Also, what dorms did your daughter like? I also heard that there are many off campus apartments within walking distance. |
Are there any shuttle buses from Orlando to UF? My DS will be a freshman there next year. We live in the Upper Midwest and concerned about him getting back and forth from the airport. What do most students do? |
| Does anyone have information about the nine credit hours of summer classes required? Can these be taken online, or do most students stay a summer to complete them? |
The classes can be online. Also, it can be waived with a summer internship. My daughter had an internship in DC so she never had to take classes in the summer. |
Could you cite this source? |
My daughter also got them waived via summer internship - though lots do get them waived via summer study abroad which if we had to do over, would considered for bw freshman to sophomore summer. |
There’s no shuttle which stinks - it’s one of my biggest annoyances sending my daughter there - red coach bus picks up at UF and takes them to Orlando but you would still have to uber 5 mins to the airport; there are some drivers that the kids use to get to the airport and the out of state gators board on fb is good for pairing up kids with similar flight times to split costs of these drivers. |
UF is very generous with credits - your son can also CLEP credits prior to get even more gen eds out of the way. My daughter always did apts bc they were so close to the business school - social 28 (not the greatest but location was good) and the row (where she’s been the rest of the time) - I think kids like broward if social for dorms but all have some good and bad factors |
Why are you on this thread? |
This It’s very difficult to get in nowadays and has many strong colleges and majors. |
