You mean an early release today at 2:00 rather than 3:30? That’s an improvement

keep hoping to get treated like Feds! Definitely not going to bite you in the a$$!

Only reason to close schools is if it is unsafe/impossible to travel to and from school. Snow shouldn't be a problem for Tuesday dismissal. We won't have freezing temps until the evening.

I am hoping for a 2-hour delay on Wednesday.

I really hope for a closure on Wednesday! We dont get so many years with descent snow, I want the kids to have more snow fun

Same. Snow days are one of childhoods great pleasures. I grew up in a very snowy place (upstate NY) and remember them vividly.

Same sentiments! Mine are 10 & 12 - feel like their days of loving being out there on their sleds for hours on end will come to a close soon. But they still love it.

No thanks — we already have plans to be out of town this weekend, since there’s no school Friday. Also, if they can’t open school for school because of the weather, how are they supposed to open school for professional development?

I just pray you’re not a fed complaining (justifiably) that RTO is ridiculous. Because PD can certainly be tailored to and benefited from remotely.

If it works for feds, it works for educators. And yes, I believe it works for both cohorts. Stay at home, get your job done. Let us have the same privilege.

(((Anyone who dissents in response to my comment is a bot or musk promoter or actually devoid of independent thought and rational. I will not be responding.)))

Not a fed. Work for a private employer and am required to be in the office five days a week. I’d rather have to stay home Wednesday unexpectedly for a snow day than to cancel a vacation I’ve already booked for Friday.

NP but no need to cancel, just take your kid out of school. For the other thousands of kids in DCPS, switch pd to Wednesday and make Friday a school day.

I bet many other parents have also already made childcare plans for Friday, and I bet most of them are not easily cancelled or swapped for Wednesday. Even if they’re not vacations. Also, if my kids have school, they’re going to school, I’m not taking them out of school for a vacation.

Parents will already need childcare for Wednesday if school is closed and will also need care Friday. Your argument makes no sense.

keep hoping to get treated like Feds! Definitely not going to bite you in the a$$!

Feds get unscheduled telework anytime there is talk of snow. I’d rather that!

K-12 classroom teachers cannot expected unscheduled telework when there is "talk of snow." Come on.

Lately, us feds get constant emails telling us to quit or get fired. Or our department just gets eliminated by an unelected oligarch.

and feds also hear on this board, sometimes from teachers! Hurray! But do you get to hear from the Mayor telling you directly in individual emails how bad you are at your jobs?

Can I get more than 30 minutes for lunch then? Will I have to intercom someone to cover me for the 3 minutes it takes me to pee?

feds have forced 30 unpaid lunch. We don't get more than that. And they are monitoring keystrokes so maybe you can get 3 minutes? Idk. probably iffy.

the good part is that a lot of feds I know are contemplating becoming teachers once the layoffs get more extensive. So that's good for all of the teaching jobs that I guess are unfilled in DCPS all of the time.
