No way thats happening. There are too many on-site PD locations across the city that cannot simply be moved on a moment's notice.

Then switch it to virtual for that one day. Prioritize student learning days

It's almost like you lack reading comprehension skills. They are held at different locations all over the city...for a reason..some are at at museums, etc. They can't just switch those to virtual, especially considering the PD is shaped around the location with activities.

I am a DCPS teacher and I agree with PP that PD should be moved to Wednesday. PD is generally a waste of time anyway, but we’ve already had two other pd days in the past six weeks. They should prioritize student learning. But they won’t.

The same way decisions should not be based on surrounding school districts whether DCPS closes or not should not be based on workers returning to the office (who by the way should have been back for YEARS).

Bowser should be considering the surrounding school districts because the MAJORITY of DCPS teachers work in those surrounding counties, meaning that just because it's safe in DC proper, roads are dangerous elsewhere. No one should risk their lives to get to work, but Bowser doesn't seem to care about employee safety.

I would normally be rooting against a snow day but this week I will root for two because honestly I feel like the world is falling apart and I wouldn't mind just taking a couple extra days of leave (that I can barely afford) to snuggle up with my kids at home and watch movies and make hot chocolate and play in the snow. Would be happy not to be on the road both days as well.

NP. I’m a DCPS teacher who lives in Montgomery County. If I can’t safely make it into work I’ll take leave. Or if Moco closes and DCPS is open, I’ll take leave. I knew I would need to use leave when I chose my home and my commute. If more teachers starting doing that maybe DC will take notice.

I am annoyed by the city owned sidewalk near my school that never got cleared, salted, or sanded so for three weeks I walked in the street. First few days I get it, but after that at least make an effort.

Anyone know the last time DCPS did an early release? I’ve been here ten years and can’t remember if we’ve had any. They were always my favorite as a kid!

I agree with you on the city sidewalks. I disagree on making decisions based on where teachers live.

PP again and MOCO often closes because upcounty has worse snow or conditions than down county. Down county is more closely aligned to DC weather. Think about last week when MoCo had a two hour delay and it just rained in dc. That would be unfair to our families

I remember one when my now 25 year old was in middle school. My youngest graduated last year, I don’t recall any since the one I mentioned.

I agree that they’re a waste of time. I think that the poster championing them must be central office.

Yep, which is why Friday’s pd should be cancelled/ moved to one of the snow days.

Not going to happen.

Well, that’s not very intelligent of you.

2010 and it was a disaster. Elementary schools were awful. Staff couldn’t leave till all kids were picked and the snow came faster and harder than they were expecting. It was heavily snowing and piling up at 12:00 when they released. parents had an hours long commutes to try and pick up their kids. I think that’s why they have never done it again. It’s either no school or school all day with no aftercare

So I can endanger an Uber driver’s life? No thank you. I have more common sense and empathy than that. Don’t have kids, sorry! Thanks for playing though.
