Maybe MAGA is more clever than we give them credit for. |

"Trump is planning an executive order to make prosecutors seek tougher penalties on local crimes, clear homeless encampments, and scrub graffiti — echoing campaign rhetoric to "restore" the capital city."

While simultaneously laying off half its workers. Seems to be tension there, no? |

"Crime decreased in D.C. in 2024 compared to 2023, a particularly violent year, but there are questions about the District’s crime reporting methods. The Metropolitan Police of Washington, D.C. (MPDC)’s reported crime data does not include “crime totals as reported to the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System”, which itself has reporting issues."
"Still, the MPDC’s website shows that homicides are on the rise in 2025 compared to this point in 2024 – seeing a 57% increase." https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-set-to-sign-executive-order-targeting-homelessness-and-crime-in-d-c |
It seems Bowser is aligned with Trump. Interesting! "Crimes mentioned in the executive order to receive harsher penalties include violent crimes involving guns and petty crimes like public urination, The Washington Post reported. The White House is in talks with the office of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, regarding what is contained in the order." |
Depends on which half. |
Yep. DC did this to itself. The residents of the District cannot be trusted to run their own affairs. |
Hey, it'd be cool to take your driving test in the rotunda. Will hill staffers be filling pot holes? |
Wait, I thought you guys thought the federal government was incompetent, but now you want them running more things, not less? |
There are levels of incompetence. If we took the US AID folks and such and put them in charge of DC, it would be a net improvement. Not as much of an improvement as you would get if the guys at the inspection station ran the city, but better than the current state. |
It will be impossible to beat the DC government's incompetence and corruption. The bar is too low. The feds in charge will be a progress. |
| Given the soft on crime policies in DC, I welcome this. I voted for Kamala in 2024 too |
| I am 100% in favor of clearing all the homeless encampments. |
| It would love a fed takeover. Since covid the entire city has turned into a ghetto. Crime is back up this year which is great timing - it would be good if we could keep the violent crime rate up (and head of 2023) through March/April when things will get interesting. Also it would be nice to see Travyon voted as Ward 8 rep after being expelled for bribery. The school performance continues on a downward trend. The budget will be in tatters bc of the CRE loss of value. This is setting up nicely for takeover, I hope. |
