Getting rid of Home Rule would greatly increase the federal budget. And it would do so beyond the 10 year budgeting window - a big violation of the Byrd Rule.

I hope they reserve the recently passed “pets in housing act” which basically makes it a crime for landlords to deny tenants restricted breeds like pit bulls. What the fk? I believe a House subcommittee would run the city much like the current DC Council, i.e., setting the agenda, passing ordinances, debating policy, appointing a police chief, etc.

This post is so dumb I can't believe I'm even replying to it, but this is just egregiously wrong. The population is at a 25 year high, metro ridership is breaking records, crime is down. I mean sure I wish some things were better but life in DC is great for hundreds of thousands of people. If you hate it so much, nobody is making you live here, but that doesn't justify the federal government taking it over.

True. The parts of DC under the executive branch are the only ones efficiently run. Can you imagine Bowser in charge of the National Mall or Rock Creek Park? It would be a disaster.

The National Park Service isn't an example of great governance...most of the national mall looks like shit and there is almost nothing done with Rock Creek Park.

I gather then you are fine with closing Beach Drive...that's NPS.

In comparison to the parts under the jurisdiction of DC government, the executive branch is doing a great job running its parts of DC.

That's again a silly statement. NPS barely has to do anything, and yet it does it badly. They don't provide security for the National Mall or RCP..DC does. They just have to cut and maintain the grass on the Mall (which they do a poor job) and literally don't do anything much in RCP...it's in fact mostly DC volunteers that do a bunch of maintenance in RCP.

Nobody who actually deals with NPS thinks they run a tight ship. It's way worse than dealing with DPR and DGS which services DC fields.

Again, in comparison to what the DC government does, it is still better. The Bowser government has placed the bar too low that anybody can do a better job. Even Trump and Elon Musk to say the least.

NPS does a lousy job of maintaining the land it controls, including with trash removal. If you don’t like specific policies of the D.C. government’s, that’s up to you, but if you think a dramatically scaled back federal government will do a better job of running a city where not a single voting constituent of any members of Congress resides, I think you’re being quite naive.
