| If this happens, we may hear calls for retrocession back to Maryland. |
That should've already happened. |
This type of post is why I love DC. Gotta love the policy nerds. |
+1 I will be proud to call Jim Jordan to complain about the lack of trash pick-up. |
| I hope they reserve the recently passed “pets in housing act” which basically makes it a crime for landlords to deny tenants restricted breeds like pit bulls. What the fk? This is the breed responsible for 95% of bites. Why can’t I, as a landlord, not have one of those fling dogs in my rental? I’ve been drinking tequila tonight so my condolences to any pitbull owners. But to you, as well, why do you need one of these fking dogs? Small dck? Just curious. They are super violent. Like genetically predisposed to violence. Get a fking lab or something. |
DC doesn’t want that and neither does Maryland. Give it up. |
Truly. |
IDK, whoever is running it now is running it into the ground. Crime and remote work drove most people away with only residential areas having any street life. Apart from some ritzier residential areas DC had been going downhill and encampments are everywhere. So much wasted RE and wasted urban grid and transit. Whatever happens it can't possibly be worse? |
I believe a House subcommittee would run the city much like the current DC Council, i.e., setting the agenda, passing ordinances, debating policy, appointing a police chief, etc. |
This post is so dumb I can't believe I'm even replying to it, but this is just egregiously wrong. The population is at a 25 year high, metro ridership is breaking records, crime is down. I mean sure I wish some things were better but life in DC is great for hundreds of thousands of people. If you hate it so much, nobody is making you live here, but that doesn't justify the federal government taking it over. |
The executive branch that's being gutted right now? Great plan. |
You clearly have no direct experience with these agencies…so why do you keep spewing shit. You mention NPS for some bizarre reason when they do a shit job in DC and they in fact outsource things like field permitting to the DC government Because they have no ability to handle that. NPS is a total pain in the ass with things like Ft Reno where they are supposed to maintain it but barely do anything so Stoddert and JR boosters have to use their own money. You don’t have a clue as to who actually does what in DC. |
It seems you are the one who have no clue: "Please note that Anacostia, Fort Dupont, Haines Point, Rock Creek Park, National Mall and West Potomac Fields are all managed and maintained by the National Park Service, an agency of the United States federal government. To request a permit for the above locations, visit National Park Service" https://dpr.dc.gov/permits |
Metro is breaking records thank to president Trump! "After President Donald Trump signed an executive order that ended remote work for federal workers, Metro said it reached its highest Monday rush hour ridership since 2020. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said on Tuesday that its Metro ridership reached 92,600 rides between Monday’s rush hour from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m." He promised Making DC Great Again. And he is delivering! https://www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-news/washington-dc/metro-reaches-record-monday-rush-hour-ridership-after-trumps-executive-order-ends-remote-work-for-federal-workers/ |
| NPS does a lousy job of maintaining the land it controls, including with trash removal. If you don’t like specific policies of the D.C. government’s, that’s up to you, but if you think a dramatically scaled back federal government will do a better job of running a city where not a single voting constituent of any members of Congress resides, I think you’re being quite naive. |
