Ending home rule could affect thousands of local jobs. If this comes to pass, I hope the new city congressionally appointed administration would keep the existing bureaucracy in place. Or else the city would cease to function.

| Won’t pass the Senate but watch for it to be added to an omnibus. |
It'll pass the Senate. The vote will be along party lines. |
You need 60 votes for something like this unless they stuff it into a budget bill. They don’t have 60 votes for this. |
| It won't pass, but it is ridiculous. |
| Employees would still be needed to support governmental activities, but the people in those roles might be selected based on different criteria than has been used in the past, and there may be fewer of them. Efficiency, effectiveness, and an absence of corruption are not bad objectives for a reimagined governance structure. |

LOL OK. if Congress wants to run our trash collection go for it.
I’m not sure what home rule would be for at this point? What do they want to change? |
They want to outlaw abortion and implement all kinds of social engineering. Who would technically run DC? The House? |
| to use DC as a test lab for all of the project 2025 social experiments - no public schools only vouchers, no abortion, make our police federal, scale back services to the poor, increased immigration enforcement etc.. real consequences for people that don't have alot of maneuverability in their lives |
|
They talk a lot about school choice...but I don't think they have any clue that DC already has vouchers and school choice.
Also, the decent private schools don't have any space for anyone. Unfortunately, there are some dreadful private schools that are almost outright scams. |
The executive branch. They already run parts of DC. The national parks service does local parks, Capitol police are responsible for parts of DC, etc. |
Lots of “moderate” dems will work across the aisle to get this done. The moderate dems are already working with the republicans on debt ceiling, Trump’s Gaza plan, allowing trumps third term, etc. |
|
I wonder if the DC council is even aware enough to have regrets about pushing things so far. Yeah. I’m against the proposed bill but wish I felt more strongly in favor of choosing the leadership we’ve picked for ourselves.

This. Should not have given them so much of an opening. |
| Love the name. Well-earned. |
