20,000 took the Fork?

Anonymous
I don't believe it. I think so few took it that they put out fake numbers to spur FOMO.

"OMG! If 20k took it, maybe I'm wrong and should take it too! OMG!"

Fk that nonsense.

The only ones who have taken where I'm at are 2 young, newish hires. They very much have the "why wouldn't I get paid for 8 months to not work???" attitude and think they'll find other jobs no problem. I mean, I hope...buttttttt

I know more than a single person who does. I don't. But I know of people who are taking this deal and seem to trust it. All fellow lawyers.

I don't believe that at all. None of the lawyers I've talked to believe a single thing in the fork agreement. In fact, the ones who came from Biglaw all universally claim private sector law firms would have summarily fired them for drafting an agreement or FAQ like this fork garbage.

+1. 25+ year lawyer here. This is what I told my DH. If I had turned this in as my very first attempt at drafting a contract in my first work assignment out of law school, there is a strong chance there would be no second assignment.

Per alt natl park service, “OPM is planning to fire all employees on probation (less than one year of employment). Agencies have until noon on Wednesday to submit a list of probationary employees to the Office of Personnel Management and indicate whether they wish to retain them—though it has been stated that this will not make a difference.”

Or they realize it will be a $hitshow if they try do that so this is just another example of pressure to get people to voluntarily give up their rights and jobs.

Unions have already said they’ll sue if Elon does this.

Sue a private citizen?

Anyone who took this thinking they will get VERA down the line is an idiot. Personally I would not want to complicate my transition to a new job or retirement with a wildcard like this either. Who wants to be on admin leave while trying to figure out the details of those transitions?

Agree with this. I am VERA-eligible and would take a VERA and leave right now even with no extra incentives. I have 34 years in the government. However, resigning without a formal VERA agreement documented is a very risky proposition. Once you have turned in your resignation, you have no idea whether OPM/your agency might say that your position is not eligible for VERA. Then they process your resignation and you lose all your benefits.
Then you are truly forked.

Agree with PP - a VERA I would consider but tethered to Fork, which itself leaves too many questions, too much subjective language, is unknown/unproven/untested, AND includes waiver of rights, is just not a viable option for my family to be able to trust/depend on.

I absolutely love my job and would not rush to leave it under normal circumstances but if VERA gets offered independently I would strongly consider it.

I was going to quit soon anyway and am actively interviewing, so I am planning to take it - but I am not 100% yet, waiting to see what other information trickles out.

Everyone should be interviewing sooner, rather than later.

No sh!t, Sherlock.

Why would you think the 'new' government would pay you for 8 months without having you to work. There are no details there. It's not something that is normal. Is that an empty promise?!

From what I read, there are still some former Twitter workers waiting for their 3 months severance pay.

If you are retiring anyways, you might as well. Probably will not be given 8 months severance.

Yeah, it’s not that I’m resisting resigning but I would not do it under fork

Just use vspa and Vera - we know how those work and trust that process

Many who are retirement eligible are taking it, my relative is doing it as they were going to retire in the next year and thought it was a great opportunity.

A federal worker sent me audio of a call that HR did today with staff about "deferred resignation" agreements offered by DOGE ... I think this is pretty well understood by now but helps confirm what many suspect

The audio goes:

Employee: Lets say I accept the agreement tomorrow - you were to rescind the agreement and they were to stop paying me on Friday ... we would have no recourse available?

HR official: Yes ... as the agreement is outlined that is absolutely correct

Same here. Have new job, was leaving Feb anyway. Just not banking on ever seeing a dime of it.

Don't you think a judge would throw that overly broad language out?
