As someone else noted, Church-shopping might benefit you. There has got to be one more centrist or left-leaning parish where you live.

Keep in mind of all Catholics only 30% go to mass on a regular basis and those tend to be the most conservative. The Church has decided not to address the spiritual needs of the other 70% bc they are not the right kind of Catholic. Yet, that does not prevent these same people from self-identifying as Catholic.

The Church offers everything needed for salvation, and more, in countless locations and via countless modes and avenues. If someone is not getting their spiritual needs met, it is because they are not practicing the tenets of the Faith they purport to profess.

So of course it's not the right wing clerics who have failed us. It's the individual's fault for questioning their myopia and prejudices.

Catholic teaching is neither “myopic” nor “bigoted,” and no person even passingly familiar with its content and development over the centuries would suggest the contrary. People who in effect voluntarily excommunicate themselves because of their own introduction of secular politics into matters of Faith can hardly blame “right wing clerics,” or anyone else.

Yes, some of Catholic teaching is myopic and bigoted. Failure to think critically is not an admirable trait.

He is not following Catholic laws

The Catholic Church is still protecting pedos. It’s literally still paying for lawsuits to protect the child abusers

Catholics are a huge voting block a huge portion of MAGA . SCOTUS whose common denominator is … gave a conman immunity .

Vance is not the only Catholic not following the church.

He is a pos who has never ever read the Catholic Church teachings . He’s never once helped anyone but himself.

His wife is no better.

Someone may identify as Catholic, but unless they attend mass every Sunday and follow the catechism, they are Catholic in name only (like Biden and Pelosi).

How do you know that Biden and Pelosi do not go to church every Sunday? And do you also know Vance's church habits?

You missed the point about following the catechism. All life is sacred, marriage is between a man and a woman, and there are two sexes. Pretty sure Biden and Pelosi skipped over those critical parts of Catholicism.
And yes, I’ve seen JD at mass.

Here comes the self-appointed right wing Catholic police - Who or what says that someone who attends mass every Sunday is actually following the teachings of Jesus Christ? Who or what says that the catechism is correct at all times in every way? Catholicism should be for people who think, not for mindless rule followers.

And that’s where you’re wrong. Being a good Catholic IS following the catechism (that is what Catholicism is based on) and yes, good Catholics follow the rules of Jesus Christ. You want to pick and choose, be Protestant.

“Is not. Is TOO” hardly constitutes rational argument.

Precisely what in Catholic teaching is “myopic” or “bigoted,” and why?

Exactly which “Catholic laws” do you assert Vance is not following?

As for the Alynskyite libel that the “Church is still protecting pedos,” as has been discussed countless times in other threads:

1. The Roman Catholic Church is the leader in abuse prevention efforts today. Nobody gets near a minor without a background check and anti-abuse training. The mere breath of an accusation against a cleric or religious is likely the end of their career, regardless how unsupported or unsupportable the claims. The standard is guilty until proven innocent and the standard of proof is absolute impossibility (as in accused and accuser were verifiably on different continents at the relevant time, and sometimes that is not even enough).

2. Pursuit of alleged abuse claims has become a profitable industry to loot the Church, enrich lawyers, empower politicians, and work toward silencing the Church’s well-founded, but sometimes unpopular, moral teaching.

3. The Church is not “literally still paying for lawsuits to protect the child abusers.” To the contrary, it has paid enormous sums in settlement of frequently specious claims and in the process has typically thrown accused clerics and religious to the wolves by insisting on admissions against interest and not providing any assistance in obtaining a defense.

4. The documents the Church’s detractors rely on demonstrate that over the years, bishops and religious superiors typically did the best they could in responding to abuse claims, according to the varying standards of different times and according to the evolving advice of the experts they relied on.

5. The allegations against the Church are no different than those against other religious bodies, and in particular the many public agencies and entities with power over the vulnerable. What is different is that the Church was perceived as a deep pocket, without access to unlimited public funds for defense and settlement costs, or claims of socereign immunity.

Vance is part of the right wing Catholic contingent which we all know. This has been a schism since the reforms in the 1960s which grew in influence during Ratzinberger's time and many people actually follow him and Francis has tried to stop this schism as it has created division in the church which does follow the reforms.

Most bishops support refugees and immigrants and vacally did in the past when it was also a political issue. This is nothing new and one way they have been consistent. I hope they stay the course with this.

The pedophilia is a separate issue. The trad Catholics don't address this at all. The mainstream church has put controls into place but I'm not advocating for them as the cover up was abominable.

Trad Catholics want to go back to some fake past. Culrltural Catholics know that lots of people picked and chose what to follow and were not all that Orthodox. They had lots of children because birth control wasn't legal. It wasn't a lifestyle choice and people were not as orthodox as they believe. Converts are often like this. However, he should actually follow current church dogma.

Plenty of Catholics besides Biden and Pelosi, are liberal in their beliefs. Even some you saw at church. and seeing JD at Mass doesn't prove he's a Catholic in good standing.

I detest J.D. Vance, but he is literally the least of your “Church’s” problems, as far as I’ve concerned.

Keep donating to pay for the defense of pedophiles, though, you massive hypocrite.

I’m not OP but yes, I have.

So you left the church, because they did not meet your demands, and you don’t want your donations paying for their defense? Good for you!

There was no mention of leaving the Church, just of not supporting pedophiles.

If you are a member of the Catholic Church, you support pedophiles. You listen to them preach (or you listen to someone preach who has helped with a cover-up), your donations are used to defend pedophiles, your very presence says, “I am OK with widespread pedophilia and the cover-up and defense thereof.”

[Excuses.]

No, you can’t be a dues-paying member of the KKK but “I’m not racist because I don’t use the n-word and burn crosses.”

Every religious organization has protected pedophiles so I guess the only solution is be an atheist.

Meanwhile your taxes go to support public schools that protect pedophiles so you are also complicit.

Dear non-catholic pp - I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to answer catholic pp's questions. They have already decided that you're wrong and will have silly responses.
