No he's not any different... he should stay exactly where he is.

What a judgmental bigot you are! I hope you are not Catholic because you need to confess this. You certainly aren't Christian be ause you are judging others without knowledge.

We know more about Vance than most people in the pews because he is a public figure.

No, it isn't. Maybe some of the Church leaders in USCCB, but certainly not all parishioners and not all clergy.

Certainly not all the USCCB leaders either

All Catholics are certainly not MAGA but many certainly are. The right wing MAGA Catholics have joined forces with the right wing evangelicals to push their pseudo version of Christianity onto others. There are many highly educated MAGA Catholics in the DMV who wish to push their religion onto others. The intellectuals behind the MAGA movement tend to be Catholic. Latter includes several Justices. Absent changes, the Catholic Church in the US will increasingly become dominated by the MAGA types, as the more sensible Catholics simply leave. Unlike several protestant denominations, the Catholic Church is not splitting into two.

The Catholic Church split in two a few hundred years ago when King Henry VIII of England left and founded the Anglican Church - very much like the Episcopal church in the US.

As a Catholic, totally agree.

Nationally, Catholics voted for Trump by a 15 point margin. Trump goes against everything I thought the church stood for. MAGA actively seek to be cruel. They are focused on wealth and power instead of caring for fellow man and for the environment. I still have faith but I don’t have anything in common with the people around me in the pews. It makes me very sad.

As someone else noted, Church-shopping might benefit you. There has got to be one more centrist or left-leaning parish where you live.

Keep in mind of all Catholics only 30% go to mass on a regular basis and those tend to be the most conservative. The Church has decided not to address the spiritual needs of the other 70% bc they are not the right kind of Catholic. Yet, that does not prevent these same people from self-identifying as Catholic.

I detest J.D. Vance, but he is literally the least of your “Church’s” problems, as far as I’ve concerned.

Keep donating to pay for the defense of pedophiles, though, you massive hypocrite.

I’m not OP but yes, I have.

So you left the church, because they did not meet your demands, and you don’t want your donations paying for their defense? Good for you!

There was no mention of leaving the Church, just of not supporting pedophiles.

If you are a member of the Catholic Church, you support pedophiles. You listen to them preach (or you listen to someone preach who has helped with a cover-up), your donations are used to defend pedophiles, your very presence says, “I am OK with widespread pedophilia and the cover-up and defense thereof.”

[Excuses.]

No, you can’t be a dues-paying member of the KKK but “I’m not racist because I don’t use the n-word and burn crosses.”

You embarrass yourself spouting this nonsense. Honestly, you are a moron.

Someone may identify as Catholic, but unless they attend mass every Sunday and follow the catechism, they are Catholic in name only (like Biden and Pelosi).

The Church offers everything needed for salvation, and more, in countless locations and via countless modes and avenues. If someone is not getting their spiritual needs met, it is because they are not practicing the tenets of the Faith they purport to profess.

And I ask again, exactly what Canon(s) has Vance allegedly violated that would subject him to excommunication?

How do you know that Biden and Pelosi do not go to church every Sunday? And do you also know Vance's church habits?

Here comes the self-appointed right wing Catholic police - Who or what says that someone who attends mass every Sunday is actually following the teachings of Jesus Christ? Who or what says that the catechism is correct at all times in every way? Catholicism should be for people who think, not for mindless rule followers.

So of course it's not the right wing clerics who have failed us. It's the individual's fault for questioning their myopia and prejudices.

Catholic teaching is neither “myopic” nor “bigoted,” and no person even passingly familiar with its content and development over the centuries would suggest the contrary. People who in effect voluntarily excommunicate themselves because of their own introduction of secular politics into matters of Faith can hardly blame “right wing clerics,” or anyone else.
