I think the most likely outcome is actually a spreading out of the destinations. You'll see significantly more top 20 matriculations but you'll also see a lot more of the George Masons, JMUs, and VCUs because of costs to the family (and a little bit because of expansion of exceptional programs at GMU and VCU). You'll see more matriculations to solid state schools and non-traditional TJ destinations who can gobble up some of these kiddos with major scholarship offers. The raw numbers of accepted scholarship dollars will skyrocket with this class - no doubt. |
Hit send too soon. What will probably hollow out is the matriculations to mid-tier expensive schools and SLACs. I think you'll also see fewer UVAs and Techs than in recent years because those kids will take scholarship money to go to a slightly lower ranked but still strong school as a value proposition. |
That was after the last time they tried to achieve "diversity" at TJ. |
It's also one of the best private school in northern virginia. |
So? |
So it's probably got as many if not more than almost all other private schools in virginia |
This is not good for the county, the state or the country. |
Literal nonsense. Every word of this is fabricated. |
I know of 2 attempts, I didn't know about the third. They have always gone back to merit after the quality of graduates degraded but we'll have to see if sanity will prevail in times like these. Sanity seems to be experiencing a headwind. |
What is the other successful attempt at improving equity at TJ that you claim to “know of”? |
It was an unsuccessful attempt. They made the admissions process much more holistic around 2010 and they ended up with a class that was whiter, richer and dumber. |
So you have been watching this at least since 15 years ago, so you are not a present TJ parents... wondering what is your business to be so vocal here. |
Loading bottom 100+ seats in a class with the lowest-level Algebra 1 students and having them struggle year after year, even in basic courses, is not equity. It's exploiting students for political purposes. Unsustainable, as proven multiple times in the past. |
Cite your stats both with respect to demographics and academic results, please. This doesn’t track at all. |
It’s so funny… literally the only people who think that TJ is somehow on the decline are the folks who just can’t get past losing out on the admissions process. It’s not a thing that any reputable outlet is actually reporting on at all. It’s just an increasingly detached group of anonymous keyboard warriors parroting the nonsense that Asra Nomani pukes up in a pathetic attempt to remain relevant. |
