Oscar Nominations

I am so excited for Fiennes nomination!!! He has one in almost 30 years!

Demi has talked about how women try to conform to societal expectations of their appearance, yet it seems like she is still doing that.

I do respect her for trying to address the situation, but it seems a bit like she is saying one thing but doing another.

I am glad she is getting critical recognition of her work and is getting work. That's all good for older women in that industry.

+1 and he already has a BA win. I'm hoping Ralph Fiennes pulls it off.

+1. I’d rather have Fiennes win.

Um, she’s an actress who took on a role and played it well. Do you think an actor who portrays a Nazi is then “saying one thing but doing another” when he isn’t a member of a supremacist group off-screen? Do you think an actress who portrays an anti-choice activist on-screen is “saying one thing but doing another” when she donates to Planned Parenthood in real life?

Do you know what actors are and what they do?

It’s enough with Nicole Kidman already, actually. She plays a variation of about two themes—Rich Woman in Peril, Rich Woman with a Secret, Rich Controlling Woman.

The only times she deviated from that, she was truly great: The Hours, Rabbit Hole, and Moulin Rouge.

That's only her latest films. Variety in earlier roles like Lion, Boy Erased, To Die For, Bombshell, etc.

See also: Destroyer, Paddington, Eyes Wide Shut, The Others, Aquaman, The Northman, Paperboy, Top of the Lake, How To Talk to Girls at Parties, etc etc

Shes done so many great films but only has 5 oscar nominations. Shameful

Eyes Wide Shut = Rich Woman in Peril
Paddington = Rich Controlling Woman
Bombshell = Rich Woman in Peril/Rich Controlling Woman/Rich Woman with a Secret
To Die For = genuinely a good role for her, very impressive

But like, let’s keep going:

The Invasion = Rich Woman in Peril
Trespass = Rich Woman in Peril/Rich Woman with a Secret…
Cold Mountain = Rich woman (as much as anyone could be during the Civil War) in peril…

She is gross. This on top of all the spoiled actors just complaining and yuck . This is why the rating are low and so many people do not care.

I always think about that too. But I also find her hard to look at now. She looks so frail and unwell. The blond hair doesn't help.

I see an incredibly talented but damaged little girl. I don’t want to know her trauma but it’s clearly there. I know she’s nearly thirty but I know plenty of grown women who are stuck at a certain age.

And play them flawlessly so I see no issue!

There's the bombing at her concert and Mac dying. But I think the weight is just plain old anorexia. Wicked was her dream role and put lots of pressure on her.

Yeah. I think I used to think only if the donut thing, but the whole child star/stunted growth stuff...I am more forgiving now. We can say she's spoiled...but would you REALLY want your daughter to live that life from such an early age?

I will always lean to empathy....

I love Demi Moore. I hope she wins. I thought it was a great performance--poignant, weird, funny, sad.

She seems so physically and emotionally fragile, like she should crumble into dust. I feel sorry for her.

The performance of Fernanda Torres in I’m Still Here is just on another level. She fully deserves the Best Actress award, at least if it’s based on merit.

I agree, posted on another thread Jean-Baptiste was my #1 but now Torres is.

Torres and Moore are pretty much a tie for me. Love both performances, for different reasons.

I admire Demi Moore. I think she has grown into being a really good actress.

The only reason she still gets roles though, is about how she looks. You have to look as young as possible for as long as possible in Hollywood, that's just a given.
