Indiana’s Kelley school has no shortage of wealthy and connected kids—especially from the Chicago/Indianapolis areas, but increasingly from the east coast as well.

While I disagree that student wealth should be a primary criteria, this idea that students at state schools don’t come from money, is just wrong.

I dont think anybody said that. Of course there is wealth everywhere. But there is no denying there is a higher concentration of wealth at private smaller expensive schools vs large state schools. On a per capita basis there is no comparison.

Whether that is a benefit for startups i dont know. But it probably makes it statistically easier to find a couple of buddies to help fund a good idea without going initially to the VC route at smaller privates given the higher per capita wealth concentration….

To OP: Is your son's SAT (>=1370) or ACT (>=30)? If so, he should be able to get auto-admitted into Kelley since his GPA is 3.8. If not, and he is really interested in IU, maybe it's not a bad idea to take the standard test one more time to ensure the auto-admit. We were weighing in last year among Kelley, Pamplin and WM, and ultimately decided on Kelley. I like their curriculum design but it's definitely not easy and it's a big school. Good luck!

ACT was 29, one seating without studying in his Jr year. I’m sure he can crack 30, but he doesnt want to take it again. We are in California where very few kids are taking ACT/SAT due to UC being test blind. He applied Test Optional everywhere. In California he’s been accepted at Pepperdine and awaiting UCs. He likes Pepperdine. It is just a few hours from home, but he wants Football. I don think he is taking ACT again. It is what it is. as of now, waiting on OSU, UCs and Miami.

We have discussed Kelley at length. He is a great student, but like a PP mentioned, he is worried about one B- and then if he decides on Business, he is done. As of now, he is leaning Tulane. Let’s see what OSU, Miami and UCs say.
