Norfolk is vibrant if you like crime.

Interesting. I’ve only ever looked at the prices.

Here’s a crime map of the whole eastern seaboard. A lot of those South Carolina beaches look like high crime. Apparently the only safe area is North Carolina.

Take it with a grain of salt they said Georgetown has more crime than 20910 and rate Potomac as a B.

Are you referring to Casa De Manana? We always walk by it when visiting family in that area and my mom says (only half-joking) that’s where she wants us to stick her 😂.

Haha YES!

😆 I thought so! It looks like a lovely place to live out your days; right by the bluffs overlooking the ocean…

What about the Charleston area beaches?

OP wanted to be 90 minutes from an airport. You can’t reliably get that from the DE beaches, even off-season.

You can’t even get to the grocery store in 90 min. Traffic is horrendous.

I live in Norfolk. There are areas with high crime and there are some very nice neighborhoods with lower, occasional crime, more of the petty sort. It’s an urban environment.

Would not move here for the beach community. There is one really nice neighborhood on the bay called East Beach, but it’s kind of isolated and surrounded by less desirable areas.

I doubt trauma is the concern.

Yes, but it's an indicator of the quality of the healthcare in an area.

Trauma is for heart attacks and strokes. What do you think it’s for?

Yep, also even if non trauma care is your concern, a large hospital with a Level I trauma center usually has more specialists and services affiliated with it or nearby, so it's an indicator of what's available to you for other care and how far you have to travel for certain services.

Santa Barbara has a crappy little airport and you have to fight a lot of traffic to get to LAX.

I love Santa Barbara - mild weather, on the beach and a funky little downtown, with easy access to LA (although I suspect decent healthcare in SB environs, too). The vibe is more interesting to me than any place I’ve been in FL.

+1

I wouldn't call the access to LA easy.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida - it's not like the rest of Florida My mom gets good healthcare, beachside is a small community and very walkable, and it's 30 minutes from Daytona International Airport. Otherwise, someplace in Cape Cod - the best part is the bus service straight to Boston Airport.

The big Air Force base isn’t too far, so there’s a community of retired Air Force families, too, which leads to lots of services for retired families within a 45 minute drive

Climate change makes the gulf pretty unappealing. The storms are only to get worse.

Climate change makes North Carolina and Tennessee unappealing too.

Sadly, lots of communities in those states suffered more devastation from the last hurricane aftermath than communities in Florida did.

Climate change is a consideration for every home purchase. Find a climate refuge for your family. Nothing has or will be done to mitigate it and it will get increasingly worse. What has been predicted is happening.

Climate change isn’t just about the temperature. It impacts the ecosystem of northern areas just as much. Beautiful water and nature are changed. Think of biting insects and pests, water quality & skin rashes, Lyme disease & other outbreaks, extreme weather. There is no sanctuary for climate change

My view is that they would like North End Virginia Beach.
I own their, nice but getting pricey.
City of Virginia Beach is out of control hiking real estate taxes to the moon.

Va Beach is also very conservative

How’s healthcare there?

Ugh to Norfolk.

VA Beach has Dems and Reps like any other city and I think VB went slightly for Harris overall last election.
You can find others you identify with pretty easily.
Health care is easily available and supported by a wide variety of HC carriers such as with any large city.

I suggested Norfolk. Last time I looked I fell like less than a couple years ago, plenty of nice houses were under $350. Tuh. Now stuff is $1M+! Talk about getting pricey!
