Good for your kid? What’s the big deal if kids want to have what other kids have? I cannot stand these comments especially about middle schoolers. Most middle schoolers don’t want to stand out, whether they are popular or not. They just want to fit in and it’s completely developmentally appropriate. Stop acting like your kid is superior.

My kids are both confident, outspoken and kind. They still want to dress like everyone else because they are middle schoolers.

I had the one that stood out. She has some things everyone had but mostly her own style by middle school. Funny though the kids who made fun of other girls for their clothes to the point of cruelty just conformed to what most girls were wearing. They bullied girls they thought wore babyish clothes. They weren’t wearing anything anyone would look at twice.

The vice principal told me more than once that he couldn’t understand how no one bullied my daughter because dressed in her own style. He obviously knew nothing about style.

I’m sure there’s a few in every school that are very well dressed. And then you have the kids who dress related to the group she’s in. The anime lovers, music lovers who have every rock band t-shirt ever made. There are definitely more than one way to dress in middle school.

What an odd thing for a VP to say. I couldn’t imagine ours saying something like that.

I’m the PP you quoted. My point wasn’t that kids cannot dress as they’d like, clothes are a great form of self expression. My point was I think it’s bizarre when parents come into threads where someone is asking about what middle schoolers like and act like it’s wrong for middle school age kids to want what others have when it’s totally normal and age appropriate. I’d much rather have my kid comfortable in what they are wearing so. They can focus on school. If that’s Ugg slippers and pj pants so be it.

It’s best if the person requesting the information would describe the child. Does she like bright colors or black? Does she usually wear baggy or tight fitting clothes. There is more than one trendy style for middle school right now. There’s the skin tight leggings and super tight hoodie. There’s the baggy hoodie. There’s Jeans with a t-shirt and plaid button down shirt, baggy cargo pants, wide leg Jeans or leggings.

And yeah, the vice principal brought it up more than once. I was kind of surprised he even took notice of what she was wearing. It wasn’t unusual clothing just more like Vogue and her friends were more like Teen magazine and Uggs. He said he just couldn’t figure it out.

I would not let my child wear those - expensive and not practical. She can buy her own if she wants them.

This forum I swear has the most miserable people ever. Some of these comments always looking for a fight.

The Tasman or ultra short I think are technically trendy, but personally I think those are the 2 ugliest styles. Which makes me think by next year they will be out bc like….they make the foot look like a giant marshmallow. My daughter is pretty stylish in a conventional way (14, clean girl Brandy Melville type style if that helps) and she asked for the ones with the bows in chestnut (heritage bow?) and they look cute with the right outfit for sure. She also has a pair of the Bailey bow in gray she got at a thrift store in barely worn condition and those are cute too.

More importantly for all the haters, they are comfy and warm for cold dry days. I don’t get the hate. I have had some of my Uggs since they were popular the first time.

Not OP, but what about Koolaburra by Uggs? My 13 year old wants a pair of Uggs and I’m considering getting the Koolaburra for her to save some money.

They are just as nice. Depends on your child whether she will accept them or not. At our school the kids do not prefer the Koolaburra even though as the adult that’s what I have a can’t tell the difference other than the label.

I showed my daughter the Koolaburra version of the ones she wants and she said that was fine. I guess we’ll see what happens when she wears them to school.

+1 I just ordered the Koolaburra ultra minis on sale for a little less than $60! I’m happy and I think my 11 year old will be fine.

Do you mean at your child's school? You're not the one in school, stop trying to relive middle and high school, PP. It's pathetic.

This very much depends on the school.

My 6th grader and her friends don't appear to care about brands at all. She has an opinion on styles (like she asked for wide leg jeans) and she certainly knows what LuluLemon is, but she and her classmates don't wear high end brands and don't appear to talk about them as far as I know.

Fake news. I feel like I can't go to the mall or even the grocery store without seeing 10 teenage girls in these. And I'm in NoVA.
