For a 13 year old????

Why are you so unhinged by this suggestion? Every teenage girl loves to make crafts.

You don’t know 13 yr old girls. Construction paper and crayons is a shit recommendation. Just stop.

+1 Yes. 13 year olds no longer use construction paper and crayons to do crafts. That is something a kindergartner would do. Loom bracelets and necklaces? Maybe.

My DD is turning 13 this year. She has not touched a crayon in years. They are trying to be mini adults now. I think they might like to plan their own party at this age but limits would have to be set on the cost and the activities.

Parents shouldn't let them be mini adults.

There is a whole spectrum between preschool crafts and adult parties. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Why are you hating on a craft party? Girls love that sort of thing!

All crafts are not the same. Obviously. Come on. Making their own snow globes, bracelets, jewelry, bags, or just about anything else is better than construction paper and markers. That’s just a bad idea. Get over it.

You are just so unimaginative. The girls can make anything with paper, crayons, markers, glue, etc.

BORING!

Good Q.

Allowing TikTok is negligent parenting.

Most middle schoolers that my kid knows don’t actually have TikTok. But the most popular dances show up on someone’s YouTube. And then they teach other. Even kids with virtually no tech is sixth grade are learning TikTok dances from friends.

YouTube shorts are exactly the same as TikTok. Your kid is accessing the same content.

I had an epic 12 yo bday sleepover. We went to. Six Flags during the day then came home and had pizza. Then, after that we had a fashion show, and stayed up all night playing, getting into mischief, prank calling, doing hair and nails and playing games. We all crashed in sleeping bags in the loft part of part of our house.

My 16 yo had a Sweet in the City party and they roamed Frederick for a while after pizza, ice cream and cake at South Mtn. Then at 8 their Escape Room experience tied it all up. It was absolutely perfect! 7 girls was plenty.

Ok you do that for your next teen party in 10 years when your baby grows up.

I’ve done these types of parties for my girls and their friends and it’s been a hit.

Uh huh, sure. You had parties for teens with scissors, construction paper and glue sticks. Tell me another one.

Play doh is even better! Smash hit!

that age i took them to the mall. that's all they wanted to do. also pizza.

We got a paint night kit from Etsy that took about an hour, the girls played card and board games for about an hour, they ate dinner and dessert which took about an hour, and they started a movie and watched until their parents picked up.

You can hire a company to come over and do a spa party. They will do mani/pedi and a variety of other things.

NP and parent of teen girls who don’t love crafts and have never loved crafts. I would second the idea of taking them to shop somewhere, turning them loose for a few hours and then ending the trip with dinner.

I am neither of these two people talking to each other. Wow , one person asks for recommendation and one volunteers one, gets criticized and attacked. They should be thanked. I would love paper and crayons to the person who said “shit recommendation” so I can hand you a craft with text reading that first word 😂

Get over yourself. You’re not that interesting and 13 yr olds don’t want to cut construction paper and draw with markers for some stupid craft. There is such a thing as a bad idea.

I'm getting such a clueless dad vibe from this one.

the doubling down on it is so weird, too

The “let them be kids” poster shows up in a lot of tween/teen girl threads whether it’s about clothes, makeup, or activities. Their obsession with it (even if it’s trolling) is a little creepy.

This poster is also getting old quickly.
