Yeah I'd actually prefer them to be outside/play outsude and be kids. Inside can be for movies ect.

Oh OP- this won’t go well just let them order pizza and cupcakes, watch a movie and call it a day. The ONE person staying over will throw off the vibe and by Monday you’ll be all the rage.

For a 13 year old????

Why are you so unhinged by this suggestion? Every teenage girl loves to make crafts.

Probably a poster who want their child to act older than they are.

It was not me. I can’t speak for them. Ask your child what craft they like to do with their friends and you will know. Friends enjoy the same thing even if it is simple or complicated. It is not age defined. We as adults enjoy crafts too. Just ask your child what they want to do, what they like to eat, and hope you have a good plan.

I am neither of these two people talking to each other. Wow , one person asks for recommendation and one volunteers one, gets criticized and attacked. They should be thanked. I would love paper and crayons to the person who said “shit recommendation” so I can hand you a craft with text reading that first word 😂

Get over yourself. You’re not that interesting and 13 yr olds don’t want to cut construction paper and draw with markers for some stupid craft. There is such a thing as a bad idea.

Okay 👍🏻 fine

I think 4 hours is doable at home. Snacks, drinks, serve an easy meal. Buy nail polish and disposable face masks (the paper ones, not the creams your rub and wait to dry). Have some beads and string available if anyone wants to make necklaces or bracelets. Rent or borrow a karaoke machine.

My kid has 20 girls over multiple times a year and it is fine. But, we push them to be outdoors. They definitely walk around the neighborhood for at least an hour. My kid usually organizes an activity but they may or may not do it. They have decorated cookies, decorated gingerbread houses, et .

We set up tables and chairs in the garage so they eat out there, kick the soccer ball around, video themselves doing dances in the driveway, etc. Scream and giggle a lot.

+1 Yes. 13 year olds no longer use construction paper and crayons to do crafts. That is something a kindergartner would do. Loom bracelets and necklaces? Maybe.

Having some structure is good, unless you want them all to end up on their phones after an hour. Is there anywhere they can walk? Starbucks, the grocery store, a restaurant? If so make that part of the activity: walk to Sbux, get drinks, hang and come home. Walk to grocery store, buy ingredients for cakes, come home and make a bunch of them. Etc.

Anonymous wrote:My new minted teenager (although she’s acted like one for years) plans to have about 10 of her school friends (all girls) over for a bday party. Her plans include roaming the neighborhood, which we vetoed. Please suggest your fav at-home activities for an 8th grade girl party (other than the obvious eating/watching a movie). We’ll have the girls over for about 4 hours, with a bestie sleeping over.

Please tell your daughter and bestie not to share that she is sleeping over. Pretend that she is being picked up and do not share. It will create bad feelings with the other girls.

Can you have a scavenger hunt? divide them up into teams and maybe then they can find stuff in the neighborhood?
