Do it at the beginning, and they will be dry enough to take home.

No. This person does not have an 8th grader.

Agreed. Maybe buy a bunch of face masks? Do pedicures? Give them each an eye cream as favor.

Why can’t they roam the neighborhood?

Her plans include roaming the neighborhood, which we vetoed. Please suggest your fav at-home activities for an 8th grade girl party (other than the obvious eating/watching a movie). We’ll have the girls over for about 4 hours, with a bestie sleeping over.

Please tell your daughter and bestie not to share that she is sleeping over. Pretend that she is being picked up and do not share. It will create bad feelings with the other girls.

This, 100%.

Aside from this, I like the "walk to Starbucks" and "scavenger hunt" ideas.

Something my daughter did at a team party was "white lie" T-shirts. They each got a plain white T-shirt, then wrote a lie about themselves on it, then put them on and laughed and made TikToks. They're silly lies, like a short girl writing, "I am 6 feet tall."

I think crafting and the like are appropriate for that age. I don’t know why you have to push them into electronics and doing inappropriate songs/dances

For a 13 year old????

Why are you so unhinged by this suggestion? Every teenage girl loves to make crafts.

You don’t know 13 yr old girls. Construction paper and crayons is a shit recommendation. Just stop.

+1 Yes. 13 year olds no longer use construction paper and crayons to do crafts. That is something a kindergartner would do. Loom bracelets and necklaces? Maybe.

My DD is turning 13 this year. She has not touched a crayon in years. They are trying to be mini adults now. I think they might like to plan their own party at this age but limits would have to be set on the cost and the activities.

Parents shouldn't let them be mini adults.

+1

A simple birthday party with cake and candles and party games is perfectly acceptable at that age.

There is a whole spectrum between preschool crafts and adult parties. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Why are you hating on a craft party? Girls love that sort of thing!

All crafts are not the same. Obviously. Come on. Making their own snow globes, bracelets, jewelry, bags, or just about anything else is better than construction paper and markers. That’s just a bad idea. Get over it.

You are just so unimaginative. The girls can make anything with paper, crayons, markers, glue, etc.

Ok you do that for your next teen party in 10 years when your baby grows up.

You don’t need to plan activities at this age. Give them some space, feed them, let your kid put on a movie. They’ll just want to hang out. Don’t be surprised if a couple peel off to read or whatever if the commotion gets overwhelming.

Dp You know what is fun? Making tie dye t-shirts!

The old make your own pizza/decorate your own cupcake. It also depends on the particular kids. Some might like the teen-friendly version of Cards Against Humanity. Others might like a kind of spa vibe (painting nails, putting temporary color in hair, etc.). They could make up and film a TikTok dance if they’re all on TikTok.
