This is it. 1) UVA and Mich are probably the most expensive OOS COA for publics in the country. 2) "Jew of M" pulls wealthy OOS Jewish kids from NY and LA. |

Why can't you simply provide a link? Do you know how to do this? |

“People who are value conscious realize that the same price for a private is a better value.”
There are very few privates that offer the overall academic excellence that Michigan provides. It’s no value to pay high fees to either a public or private school if it doesn’t measure up. Your comment is too simplistic and generalized. |
You have to be rich to live there. Top 5 in the nation for income tax, property tax and gas tax |
These must be the bottom half of class from these boarding schools. |
DP. I think they are referencing the Chetty College Mobility project published by the New York Times. See below. This was probably influential in causing USNWR to change their rating criteria to include mobility (factor % of Pell Grant recipients and first generation). USNWR also removed or lowered the weighting of criteria that otherwise disadvantaged a number of large public schools that had higher percentage of Pell Grant recipients, including student-faculty ratio, alumni giving, etc. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/projects/college-mobility/ |
I assume you're a wealthy alum who wants to secure a place for DC at UVA? |
Because schools like that usually have lousy aid for out-of-state students. Out-of-state broke students will usually get better deals at their own state schools or private schools. |
Nah. Harvard is only 180+ years older. |
While legacy won’t help you anymore, you can still move the needle provided your donation is big enough. |
And Virginia isn’t mostly “rural, smaller towns”? Have you been to “the rest of” Virginia? Most of it is not very wealthy except the ugly Northern part that is adjacent to DC. |
Michigan is not a state school. It is a.school that gives a discount to people who live in Michigan. - a Michigan grad who lives in Michigan. |
I can never figure that out..tons of high level jobs are gone from the Big Three. And suppliers usually have piss poor margins. So where do all the people in Bloomfield Hills or Grosse Pointe work? Or is a lot of it inherited money? Everybody can't own an insurance company or be a financial advisor. |
Sorry Virginia, but you are no NY or CA. Nice try though. |
