Yes - not surprising from the system that, just yesterday, publicly released the district's MCAP scores with a headline touting how they are the best in Maryland while glossing over the fact that MCPS scores have been declining year-over-year. |
Yes +1. I am a teacher and I also have had two kids graduate. Look, we have gone from a district where the majority of kids had college-educated, professional parents, to one that still has many of those parents but also many low-income, new immigrant parents. Some kids arrive in kindergarten reading chapter books because their parents have been teaching them since birth, and some kids arrive not even knowing their name because they’ve been taken care of by siblings and had no exposure to English. Of course these kids don’t “achieve” at the same rate. |
But MCPS also decided differentiation and tracking was "racist" so now we've decided the best thing to do is through all of those kids into the same classroom environment and hope for the best. |
Sure. But MCPS doesnt have to have grading policies that say that a 10th grader with a 99 and a 100 in the first and second semester and one with a 89.5 and 75 “achieved” the same A. |
That was me…but I went to private school K-12 and was equipped with a solid education. My kids are in mcps and I’ve watched the curriculum devolve to the lowest common denominator…which keeps declining at demographics continue to change. Mcps has definitely fallen from grace. My friends and family who went to even the most mediocre mcps high schools back in the 80s and 90s received solid educations. But that’s simply not the case today. |
Someone with an 89.5 and a 75 would have a B for the semester. |
Some of this also has to do with the push for play based preschool. We started in a play based preschool and I was volunteering that day and they were testing the older kids on the playground of their basics and I was shocked at how little some of these kids knew. The next year we switched ours out to an academic preschool and they went into school with a much better foundation. Plus we worked at home with them. |
3 and above is in fact 'success', as per the college board. |
Idiot, it's the college board that decides 3 and above as success. If you have a problem with that, take it with them. Second, MCPS' MCAP scores have not been declining. This is an unproven test that is only 3 years old. You would think these private schools parents would be smarter

Even as a troll, you fail miserably. You're so dumb that you cannot even troll. |
Import the third world, become the third world. Not sure what people expect. |
Why are you so triggered by private school parents that you bring them up even when no one has identified themselves as a private school parent? |
|
I just read the article. What an absolute mess.
I can’t understand how anyone can continue defending this district or pretending it’s providing kids with a high quality education. |
Why are you posting here if you are a private school parent? |
Can you post it online? I don't think it's on their website, which is annoying. |
