DMV governments need to release genetically modified mosquitoes

Last night all I wanted to do is practice my golf swing in the backyard. NOPE. Couldn’t even last 5 minutes because my legs were SWARMED with Asian tigers. It’s so bad around here. You can’t go outside for like half the year.

We plant a lot of bird friendly plants and mosquito repellant plants, take care of water, remove plant debris and keep grasses to a minimum. I usually rub some mint and basil leaves on exposed skin and don't get bit. I usually garden in long sleeves and pants. The bites I do get stop itching with a little plantain and coconut oil add go away pretty quickly. We practically live in our yard.

While you wait for a miracle answer, try planting alliums, mums, marigolds, mint, basil peppermint, cedar, catnip, patchouli, lemongrass, lavender -- all of these repel or confuse mosquitos. Grass is a hiding place for them. If you must have grass you need to keep it really short (which is not ecologically smart; better to avoid grass). Also piles of lawn debris will also attract them.

Also they are weak fliers, so if you are just sitting around, a simple fan or breeze will also protect you. As will a fire pit.

I need an industrial fan to make sure my entire body is surrounded by constant breeze. Otherwise I am bit relentlessly. As for a fire pit -- that has never worked for me.

Some blood types are bitten more than others.

My mosquito repellant is making sure my wife is nearby. They all swarm on her.

I am a mosquito magnet and it is awful. I got my yard sprayed regularly last summer and it helped but there were a few times where it rained right after they sprayed and I think the stuff washed off.

I end up scratching in my sleep as I get severe itchy welts and have scars on my legs from them.

Nice try, Bill Gates. No one wants your GMO mosquitos or your chemical apple peels. Why don't you go be a normal rich person and stop trying to insert yourself in every facet of life.

What if some child gets rabies?!?!?!?

I can't tell if you're serious but we already have bats in the DMV area.

DP. And bats are a known vector for rabies, and their bites aren't always obvious. I'd rather have the genetically modified mosquitoes than be told to attract more bats to my yard, with 2 young children who routinely play outside.

We use deep woods off on all exposed skin, and this is the first summer that it has been completely ineffective. DH put out dunks, we've tried thermocell...nothing has worked. I'm highly reactive to mosquito bites, and it has been a miserable few months trying to be outside with my family.

Anyone want to link to their industrial fans? These aren’t cordless, right? And, yes, OP. Some progress needs to be made on this. It’s a nightmare where I live in Georgetown.

In AU Park it's been so bad this summer than they routinely follow us into the house when we open the door for the 2 seconds it takes to come inside. It's not been unusual to find 10 mosquitos in the house after one of us comes or goes.

I have one of these with me outdoors, sometimes even to walk to my car:

Gaoh, even Dr. Fauci got West Nile Virus from mosquitoes in this area. It is out of control.

I just woke this morning in my bedroom and found bites all over my arm. One got inside the house. It was an Asian tiger of course.
