DMV governments need to release genetically modified mosquitoes

Oropouche virus is spreading. It can leave to birth defects and still births. There have been deaths. Every day that goes by and govts don’t do anything about the out of control mosquitoes is playing with fire.

Why don't we have bats in DC? When I grew up in a suburb of PA there were bats everywhere. We used to throw tennis balls up into the sky to watch them swarm it. We never had a problem with mosquitos. We never sprayed anything, into the environment or on ourselves. I don't remember ever seeing a single bat in the 25 years I have lived in DC.

Bats cannot naturally control the problem. The Asian tiger mosquito is not native and breeds exponentially faster than the native mosquito...enough with the hippie bullcrap ideas. We need to use science.

The mosquitoes in dc are truly horrible. Everyone who visits us comments.

I walk the 30 meters to my car and get about 4 bug bites in that time. It's absurd.

They are attracted by the smell of marijuana in the air.

We bought an industrial fan, which helps. But I agree that governments need to get this under control before more people start dying.

I’ve always wondered why people don’t mind more. It’s one of the last straws that pushes us to leave DC last year. Maybe because we enjoy spending time outdoors, use our yard, generally be active, and so many people in the DMV suburbs just hole up in their houses all summer?

DC reporting a lot of cases of dengue fever?

West Nile is in DC

Dengue will become an increasing concern in the US eventually given global warming. We are just playing a little whack a mole with it down in Florida in the meantime.

We spray our backyard and front yard and can walk safely to the car.

I agree. Haven’t used my back patio since June . I would gladly pay extra taxes to be rid of the aggressive mosquitos

Yes, please spray the neighborhoods with DDT again.

Yes! Find memories of running behind the ddt truck with all the other neighborhood kids!

Yes, this really happened.

Maybe but nothing like 40 or 50 years ago.

About 20 years ago I lived in New Orleans and remember crop dusters with chemicals to control bugs flying overhead and spraying everyone. This was middle of the day on a weekend. Pretty sure I lost ten years of my life living in that city.

+1

It is really a nuisance and unpleasant. They just attack you.
