And refusing to mask your kids *was* hateful because it indicated selfish contempt for those around you. People often interpret reckless, antisocial behavior like that as hateful, especially when forcefully and performatively displayed.

Your desires weren't valid or relevant. But this had more to do, I suspect, with the WAY you went about expressing your invalid, anti-social, desires. That others perceived to be reckless and selfish.
